The shut in is beatrice. And subaru throw ram too is in this timeline, because they trying to save rem that time, and now rem doesn't exist, that memory too get erased in ram's memory.

The shut-in is Beaty. That is because she never leaves the library. One reason not to go for Beaty first because he doesn't know where she is. Unrelated to this episode, but you seemed confused before. Beaty can leave the mansion, but the further away she is to her library, the weaker she becomes.

Yes, Ram being thrown as a decoy happened in this timeline. She doesn't remember it because that memory also included Rem, so it has been removed. Also, you did question some time ago about who sent the famous "blank letter" at the mansion at the end of season 1. We can assume now that the letter was sent by Rem and because of Gluttony Authority ended up being black.

Keep in mind, Subaru still doesn't know what triggers the updates of the checkpoints. He wants to save everyone, and by Betty saving his life in that moment, who knows what consequences it will have in terms of a checkpoint?

the shut in is a reference to Beatrice, since she's always in the library. And Beatrice is only contracted to defend the secret library, not the the mansion, and that's why she didn't interfere.

I think Elsa meant Beatrice when she said shut-in. The client's specifications probably didn't take into account that Subaru might go back to the mansion early.

[Spoilers alert] I always thought that she was talking about Rem, especially since Ros and Beatrice are somehow connected. It also seems that there was a translation error (or a mistake) into my native language, which led me to be sure that it was about Rem. I was very surprised because I watched re:zero 5 times, or even more and didn't noticed that. Thanks for the correction!

4:50 So what's up with Garfiel's different reactions to Subaru? I had thought it was wild mood-swings of a 14 year old. That may be part of it but I learned different. NOT A SPOILER because the info is in s1. We saw the explanation at the end of 1x15. (1x08 director's cut). When Subaru has a return by death, he STINKS of the witch's miasma. It slowly goes down but doesn't go away. Garfiel hates the witch's cult. First loop, it had been a while since Subaru died so the stank wasn't so bad. In this episode, he's just had a RBD and has max level stank. Garfiel hates that and doesn't trust Subaru one bit.

Well, the thing is, the test isn't about being a warrior or physically strong. It's a test of character. and that definitely is a quality required of a ruler. If someone that has everything done to them becomes the kind/queen, they have no place there as they can achieve nothing themselves.

nah, I don't usually agree with Luke, but he's right here. It's good on Emilia that she wants to overcome her weakness, but there's a right time and place for it. Doing this at the cost of the villagers who are stuck here is pure selfishness on her part especially when she hasn't shown any results thus far. She is just putting herself before her people, which makes her a pretty shitty ruler.

I would assume it means Beatrice because she spends all her time in the Library. There's almost no way that it's referring to Rem because hardly any time has passed since everyone but Subaru forgot her existence.

Hey Luke, regarding Ram's confused memory and the time-line they are in, it's probably easiest to think of it like this: Whenever he has a "win" is the timeline that moves forward. So, the battle with the White Whale is part of the timeline because Subaru was able to secure a victory there. Same with Rem and Ram. Subaru "won" by rescuing Rem, victory. Subaru was able to defeat the Witch's Cult without losing Wilhelm or any of the villagers, victory. Now to the question you didn't ask but I could tell was tickling the back of your thoughts: When Rem was attacked by the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, the memory of her left the world... except for Subaru for... reasons (actually, even in the webnovel they never explain why Subaru was able to remember the people who were lost either to the White Whale or Gluttony), however her impact on reality didn't disappear. Ram doesn't remember Rem, but when Subaru mentioned throwing her as a decoy, she got a headache. Basically, something inside of her remembers that happening. If Ram were to be asked about the fact that she was part of the Oni clan and only twins are born with one horn (she doesn't have hers currently, but she would remember having one in her past even without Rem), she would probably get a massive headache and not be able to explain why she only had one horn instead of two. Rem disappearing didn't give Ram back her horn (she lost it protecting Rem, remember), nor did it make her have (or had) two horns. Reality still moves forward even though the people lost to Gluttony's authority are forgotten. There was a very subtle reference to the fact that there were soldiers missing during the battle against the White Whale, even though there was no memory of some of them. How did they know? Numbers of people in a platoon. 30 men go in, 10 get their names eaten, 20 are left... but platoons have 30 men, so there's something amiss that can be calculated (the 30 men to a platoon thing is just an example, but Crush did have someone mention that they lost some men during the battle and figured out how many were lost by counting the survivors and comparing it to the number of people that were in Crush's regiment). It's confusing as hell, but the clues are there explaining these things. You'd have to be a weeb (like me) or have an eidetic memory to catch all the nuances and subtleties, so don't feel like you're missing important details. The ones that are obvious are the most important ones, while the very brief mention of a minor detail can be missed without really ruining the continuity. Plus, you have us to explain any of your concerns.

So I'll briefly explain 2 questions you had spoiler-free. "Why doesn't Ram remember being thrown?" - This is that same timeline, that all happened in the first half of S1. The reason Ram doesn't remember is explained in Episode 1 of S2. Sloth ate Rem's existence essentially, everyone forgot her and the universe filled in the blanks, hence why Frederica is even here, that being said Ram has already said in S1 when Rem lost to the whale "I hate to admit it Subaru but you and I were responsible for the forest stuff". Simply put, to Ram the tossing distraction never happened, since he threw her to distract Rem. As for your 2nd question at the very end "The shut-in?" - This is much simpler, it's Betty (Beatrice). She's just being called a shut-in because she lives in a single room, in the library. Some of the best episodes coming up in the next 2 weeks and then a very strong finale. Christmas can't come sooner D:

While I understand where you're coming from about Emilia not having to do the trial. I'm afraid I have to disagree. It's absolutely true that a ruler doesn't have to be the strongest to be a good ruler but that's only in regards to physical strength and skill in combat. A ruler MUST be mentally strong or there is no way in hell they will be a good ruler and that is what these trials are all about. They are testing your willpower and mental fortitude. Your ability to reconcile with the most tragic parts of your past to be specific in the first trial. So, for me, its really important that Emilia goes through this if she ever hopes to be the ruler.

I agree with the idea but I would suggest excel/google sheets - can be easier to update info about an character (names/pronunciation), mark any other info or add notes/ranking about whatever + filter/search function... Long story short: no need to remember everything, to use tools to make your work easier is totally legit
