Forget the cool monsters and amazing fights. The story and character arcs, ESPECIALLY over the 2nd half, are amazing. The live action Japanese movies (part 1, part 2) are pretty good. They hit all the important parts of the anime and are fun to watch. If you have a friend who WILL NOT watch anime, get him to watch the movies. 9:36 "This is gonna be a tough watch." Fight on! I watched the YaBoyRockLee reaction to "So I'm a Spider, So What?" and it was hysterical because Nasty, one of the reactors, had a strong spider-phobia. Their cruel, cruel fans voted for the series because they knew Nasty had the phobia. BTW, great isekai series. Give it a shot. 24:39 The Thing wasn't a parasite. It copied other lifeforms, it didn't live in them. Ref never starting a series without finishing it. OTOH (hand!) you would have more freedom to experiment with series if you gave yourself the option to stop reacting to it if you didn't like it or found it boring. A matter of taste.

"Sumimasen" is translated as "sorry" or "excuse me" (and like "excuse me" you can use it to ask for something, like "excuse me, can you move please?") and is used somehow formally, but another kind of apology you'll probably listen often in anime is "gomen" or "gomenasai" which is also "sorry" but more casual, usually used to apologize to friends, family or people that you know

I think it is a good idea to watch the opening or ending for the first chapter when you react, at least for Patreon. For animes like this or for mushoku it gives you fresh information and put you on tone for what it comes. It does not need to be for every chapter, just for when the anime starts or if there is a new opening mid-season.

Such a fun anime. I've only seen it in dub and I don't remember the dub having all those weird wacky sound effects. Maybe I'm just misremembering but they sound very out of place

The reason why the anime has a fast pace is because it adapts the entire story in this one season. And another little fun fact is that the manga on which it is based comes from the first half of the nineties. I know the film "The Thing" and yes, there are some parallels, but as you saw in the first episode, there are some limitations with the parasites. These are based on their biology, which will be shown in the following episodes.

An interesting fact about Parasyte and previous anime you just finished (almost) is that, altough Parasyte is a lot more popular, Madoka Magica has more fans. As for my opinion about this anime, I like it, I think it's really good and one of the better ones among mainstream anime.

Sad this pilot didn’t sell you the anime, as I personally really like it. When you first started watching anime you explained how you like darker themes such as horror, which is why we (me included) suggested you watch Parasyte. Hopefully you’ll, despite your discomfort, enjoy whats to come.

The parasite in his hand is not fully connected to his body, or rather: it doesn´t have full access over his body. That´s what he (on top of not having control) meant with "i failed (to take the brain)". in other words: he is literally "just" his hand, and a hand cannot digest. In order to be able to eat, the parasite would need control over the enitre digestive system, which the parasite does NOT have. I assume distinct difference between Shinichi's parasite and the others is, that this one was forced to live on the nutrients of the bloodstream of his host (due to the lack of control over the digestive system), so he never had the necessity to even establish a digestive system for himself within the hand. As a result, the energy needed to live has doubled (because Shinichi is basically eating for 2 people now, himself and the parasite). We also know, that the parasites "evolve", they don´t necessarily come with knowledge, and that´s also why the parasite "studied". The dialogue with the other parasite and what you said afterwards basically confirms that the parasites have instincts, that are supposed to "guide" them. But since both (Shinichi's and the dog's parasite) didn´t grow up in ideal environments, they were forced to adapt. Shinichi's parasite had ideal conditions for learning and adapting, while the dog's did not.

Am I the only one recalling the first episode (and maybe even the second one) wrongly ? I swear the anime started by the weird spore falling down and the failed possession of Shinichi. I don't remember at all seeing the first few seconds, and the pacing/the scenes just feels off from what I remember from the time i watched it at release. I recall having the same reactions on my second watch, and it was after the studio problem/the blu-ray release. Did they change it ? Or am I just loosing my mind ?

Idk. Personally and OBJECTIVELY this episodes reminds me of full metal alchemist brotherhood ep1. The difference is grossness. both shows start directly in "episode 2" type of thing. The only difference is that one show had no gross stuff & action, and this show has gross stuff & action. About the sound effects I actually feel they are good because it adds that weird element to the show. So I think the show presented itself perfectly as 1st episode for something super weird and gross. I just think luke was grossed out so his mind focused on the bad elements instead of the good. I notice the brain does that when you are not truly enjoying something. PS: I think after ep 8 he might change his opinion either way. That episode did show something that no other anime has shown before. If u know you know what I refer to. I will say just one word and that is 'personality'.

This story was originally published as a manga in 1988, so definitely The thing might have inspired a lot to the author. I read the manga a little bit before the anime started and I was surprised how good it was adapted to the modern times (2014 was the year it aired) I don't really remember everything in detail, this will be my first time rewatching it after almost 10 years, but I definitely enjoyed it and hopefully you will get to like it too!!

To be fair, I think the first episode is one of the weakest epidodes of the show. It is a bit uncomfortable and almost cringe worthy at times. But you warm up to the characters quickly and the development of both story and characters is so cool and interesting.

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one xD many of my friends though i were crazy over it because neither them nor I could find the TV version. But as we talk about it, even tho the sound effects doesn't bother me, they feel different as well. And if I recall correctly, episode 2 will have like "lego type" students walking on the background, and I was like "wait wtf that wasn't like that before ?"

I first watched this in my early teens (around the time it aired) and have re-watched it multiple times since. What I really love about this show is how it uses dubstep to build tension during confrontations. Idk if it's unique to Parasyte, but it's definitely rare.

Never had that problem of losing my appetite either. Funniest thing was when my best friend and his fiance, me and one other friend did a movie night. We ordered Pizza and decided to watch "the human centipede" while eating, since our other friend boasted he had a strong stomach and can handle messed up movies and it would not bother him. His fiance took her plate and went into the bedroom to eat while watching something else and she didn't like the movie anyways^^. Not even 10min later the other friend went and joined her cause he felt sick xD. The laughs my best friend and I had xD. It's just a movie, it has nothing to do with my food, can't understand that either^^. But we watched regularly messed up stuff as teens. Seen everything on rotten dot com, the cannibal movies, gutterballs ect.. Ichi the Killer is funny xD.

It is a good series tbh. the music in this is very dubstep-heavy. when this was released it seemed to me it was quite popular with anime that came around that time. the OST is great, I think you'll like it even though that one seemed kinda misplaced
