What a ride. Really happy that you got to see this show. Hopefully you get the chance to see Monogatari and March Comes in Like a Lion to complete the Shaft trifecta. Looking forward to you starting Parasyte next, and seeing the Madoka movies when you get the chance.

GENESIS

Hope you still react to movie 1 and 2 OP

Arctic

The OST that plays through the whole "Madoka's Wish" scene is why I love Yuki Kajiura's composition style so much, she just uses different instruments with the same core melody and then adds plenty of other variation behind it.

This episode always makes me teary eyed from start to end. So yeah.... theres a saying "The more things change - the more they stay the same". This ending perfectly shows this to be true. Madoka's wish was only to erase witches but at the same time the world needs to rearrange itself somehow to preserve its very own existence. Thats where the wraiths come in. And now instead of magical girls ending up as the thing they fought they just disappear as seen with Sayaka. The bow that Homura used is Madoka's bow. And btw this rewatch put me in a mood where i want to break myself even more by binging Your Lie In April

Von Yoosten

"I don't know how this could continue!" And that's the Beauty of Rebellion ;D

Arketh Adrcn

The curses of the world did not disappear, they simply no longer coalesce into such potent forms.

FaerieRose

The difference is that wraiths aren’t made from transformed magical girls.

Shadow

can't wait for the movie reaction now XD

Adam

Basically Madoka just didn't want magical girls to fall into despair and have their hopes and wishes corrupted. She didn't want all the effort they put in to be rewarded with despair and sorrow. Since she only wished to erase witches to prevent that, magical girls still exist, and there needs to be a reason for magical girls to exist, so that's why wraiths took the place of witches as the enemy for magical girls to fight. Where in the past magical girls fought fallen magical girls turned witches, now they fight wraiths which are just the curses of humanity given form.

The wishes are the same, except Madoka. (Although it's possible that Homuras form changed due to her will? She's basically like Madoka) the curses provide less energy, cuz we saw homura needed like 7-8 curses to clear her gem (instead of 1-2 witch seeds) The movie is gonna blow ur mind 😂 ive watched it 7+ times, I love it. The movie also has after credits, so don't skip out! -

Vladilena Milize

Are you going to go into the spin off series Magia record at all?

kagami

Magical girls must exist because as Kyubey said human civilization is built on the hopes of magical girls. Those hopes bring change and transformation to society in the worldview of this anime. And Madoka believes that it's not wrong to have hope, but to become a witch to bring curse is the most betrayal to all magical girls. The anime doesn't explain this logic because the creators assume audiences understand them as the base of the magical girl anime genre. Madoka's slight change to the world means that the anime goes from a dark and desperate magical girl theme back to a world with love and hope as it should be.

Emilis2023

Regarding your first thought of Madoka just getting strong enough to kill the witch without using the last of her power, yes, that would definitely be possible, but just being a magical girl in general drains the soul gems. So even if you theoretically had the last surviving magical girl kill every existing witch and familiar, that magical girl would then eventually run out of power herself and turn into a witch. Then the witch would start breeding familiars and the whole mess would start all over again. Basically once the cycle started, it couldn't come to an end until something like Madoka came along who rewrote the way the universe worked.

Sai

Godoka.

Emilis2023

I think the whole 'wraith' thing is also a way of the universe creating a new concept in order to avoid just completely screwing up causality. Magical girls still need to die when they would have died, otherwise the butterfly effect would have been absolutely enormous. But for the magical girls to die, there needed to be something they were fighting. The biggest change was exactly what Madoka asked for. Magical girls don't give into despair at the end of their lives and turn into witches. They just die. It's not the most happy result for the individuals, but it's a big improvement over what they had before.

After Madoka rewrote the laws of the universe, the universe still needs some way to manifest the world's negative energy. The wraiths are an alternative, less efficient system, but saves the magical girls from becoming witches.

TalesoftheBoojum

My daughter introduced me to this series when it first came out (she was in middle school herself) and her synopsis was, and I quote: "Is she a magical girl yet? Is she a magical girl yet? Is she a magical girl yet? OH. MY. GOD!" Anyway, at the end, there's still plenty of despair in the world to go around. It manifests as wraiths and there are magical girls to fight them and the difference between hope and despair still creates energy that incubators can use to stave off entropy.

Watch magica record madoka side story

Abe J

I've seen this twice now and that ending is still odd to me. So she takes the witch essence before the magic girl can turn into a witch.. so was Madoka also fixing the universe? The very reason they were making magic girls in the first place? If madoka took all the witches out then what was the point of making magic girls in the first place? Couldn't have madoka just healed the universe in the past and had no magic girls? Or created an energy engine to give to the incubators? 🤔

Abe J

The more I think about it the more her wish sucks lol. It's obviously a multiverse, or we wouldn't have had a story. So madoka is really only stealing the witch of the current magical girl in each multiverse at whatever time it's at. ..

Louispul5

Remember how the witches kissed people and made them kill themselves? Those people are still full of despair. They still kill themselves. That's still a ton of negative energy. That's where the wraiths come from. But now there's no witches forcing it to happen.

Eliana

Can't wait for the movie, and Parasyte is still one of the best out there

mjaomjao2

I can't speak for everybody but if you struggle to find the time to watch the movie I wouldn't mind watching it on twitch after we're done with Fate/Stone whichever is done first.

Obscuremango

Now you've gotten here I can tell you why the final scene means so much about madoka, she has never made her own important choice she always pushes it into someone else, watch the seires again, and you'll notice that she has always pushed it into someone else.uts so bad she can't choose what colour ribbon for her hair, that day. So I imagine trying to make a choice on something bigger. It's why when she makes her wish it's so darn important and amazing about her The sub is very different in the dub it's out that she denies there is an option ht that's a whole other thing

Thank you for reacting to my favourite anime, now we just need the movie.

NitexKnight

I think making the movie free on here is the best idea and then for the youtube video just do like a 2 minute announcement that it's up on Patreon

JOSHUA A STERRETT

The fate of a magical girl remains one of turmoil, fighting the manifestations of negative human emotion (wraiths) until they are worn down and their soul gems corrupted by despair. The major differences now are that 1) their fight is with the despair of the world at large, rather than against their fallen kin, and 2) they have a kind, comforting reaper to purge their souls of accumulated despair before the end so that they may pass on in peace. As for the movie... that final scene is good foreshadowing. That's all I'll say.

also please react to the trailer of the upcoming movie after you finish movie 3

ArtKi

2:25 But how do you know when that is? I wouldn't trust when Cat-Demon says. 4:25 "Has she found a loop-hole?" Jeeze. this entire series is a "Deal with the Devil" trope! 8:12 HOLOCAUST Magical Girl?!

Skeletan

Were you paying attention? I'm sorry, but they've already outlined why this was the best solution. If there weren't any magical girls ever then Humanity wouldn't have advanced past Caveman technology, and if it weren't for the people brave enough to sacrifice themselves for the sakes of others then we wouldn't even be able to call ourselves humans. What she took was the unending terror caused by the Incubator's twisted logic, it saved those with brave hearts and love to give from becoming horrid witches that try to inflict further pain and suffering onto others. So, humanity gets the best of both worlds, we maintain the advanced civilization we acquired while giving those who sacrificed everything a peaceful rest at the end of their journey.

Lindsay

So in one of the previous episodes, we learned a few important tidbits from Kyubey that were essential in shaping Madoka's wish. 1) The universe needs this collection of energy that the Incubators are performing on Earth (Madoka understands this, but finds their methods cruel) 2) Kyubey told us that if the girls weren't making these wishes, humanity would still be living in caves. Obviously #2 is debatable, but the point is that Madoka wanted to create a way for the girls to keep their wishes, which were essentially miracles that couldn't have happened without them making a deal with Kyubey (violin boy's arm healing being the example they show us), but then alter reality so those same girls didn't end up consumed by hatred that turn into witches that hurt or killed others. TL;DR: She's letting everyone in history keep their miracles while preventing them from hurting anyone. A lot of people were confused when this episode first aired, but after thinking about it, I think it's the best outcome she could've created that work within the logic of this universe!

Abe J

Guess not, cause I don't remember anything like that. So if she stops a magical girl from becoming a witch than what happens to the next girl who needs a grief seed? Or the girl who got killed by a witch at some point?

Lu C

Lol Madoka went partially Sailor Moon 😁 I was thinking also about eliminating the witches... maybe eliminating the whole system could be better or worse... I hope the movie will get some more info about the incubator aliens and if it's even possible to get rid of them. Overall Madoka is a good interesting anime just I'm not fond of the character designs - the faces are too wide and similar. The OST from Yuki Kajiura is great but still I miss more vocals () like she did in anime My-Hime (2004) / My-Otome (spin off) - recomend to watch sooner or later. Looking forward to Parasite. I hope one day there will be Ghost in the Shell (1995, it has 82min. so for YT you could devide it into 3 parts) and GitS Stand alone complex series; Black lagoon, Claymore, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ergo Proxy. And all have great openings and endings to react.

Skeletan

Madoka forced the Magical Girl system to reset without the key component of 'Witches', which means neither Witches nor Grief Seeds exist in the universe, right? So that must mean either A: They found a new method of restoring mana or B: It's not necessary anymore. Pick either one, and check out the official manga called The Wraith Arc that covers the new universe without Madoka and without Witches, not that I've read it though. Oh yeah, the girl who got killed by a witch, clearly couldn't be killed by a witch because they don't exist, Wraiths do, so I'd say it's safe to say the Wraith killed her. Or, we can look at what Mami says "Miki used up all her remaining power in that last attack." Honestly, if you've missed this much, it's probably a good idea to rewatch the show and see what else might've gone unnoticed. It's a 12 episode show, but it's quite packed with information

Please Luke, add Magia Record to your list!!! Also, loving your "grain of salt" perspective. Watched this for the first time and was so happy at the end, (until that third movie) I didn't think about this. This is why I follow you. Your opinions, emotions and everything are just so completely felt.

KaiChannel

Hamura was what Madoka is was in the timeline we saw, closed and timid. The more Homura was repeating the time the more she brought trauma to Madoka's soul making her less and less confident and open to the world. On other hand the terrible reality made Homura to build stone cold mask. By trying to save Madoka she led to Madoka making the decision knowing everything and still going thru it for everyone salvation, reaffirming who the real Madoka is, the one from the start. The one who would've done it even knowing everything. This is why Madoka path to be Magical girl in this timeline is so important, because she was weak, she was the bystander, she knew everything including the worst reality and still said I want to do it. Madoka has 3 movies 2 recaps and the 3rd Rebellion is very important new story that expands on Madoka and Homura connection [Waiting for movie 4 next year] Also fun fact Madoka first ever wish that made her magical girl was to save the cat you see in the opening that was run over if I am not mistaken, hence - I will do it just to save someone. It was who she is all along.Homura on other hand is purely focused on Madoka as we saw she didn't care that much about the other girls at least in our timeline. And as Kyubey explained before there is no way for reality without a form of magical girl no matter it's name...

Harley Burnie

Yes!!! I'm dying for someone to react to Magia Record! I've watched like 4 recent Madoka Magica reactions lately, and none of them got to see that awesome part of the story.

Harley Burnie

You could share your movie reaction with a Vimeo link, though I don't know what thay entails. I just know that I've seen a lot of YouTube channels share movies reactions that way.

the movie will be very confusing for you at the beginning.

First let me say, I really enjoyed your reactions. This episode is what makes the show my favorite anime of all time. After the amazing story full of twists and brutality we get this ending, which I can only describe as beautiful. The whole story is one of despair and hope, and Madoka brings hope (she becomes hope). I also vibe with this as a religious person, because the sacrifice does not end all hardship and tragedy, "only" brings hope. I really like the idea that when you die, the first thing you will see is God who tells you "It is okay now, you can rest, welcome" or something along those lines. I like that Madoka keeps the magical girl system and honors the girls wishes, their hard work and tears, and does not just negate that. I think it also makes sense from the story perspective - they need energy to prevent entropy, and without magical girls we still would be living in caves. It is like Kyubey says in ep 11: The life you live now is built upon the tears shed by people in the past (which is very true in our real world as well). In this timeline she is finally equipped with all the information, and comes up with a wish that while not perfect, is the best possible one. About Rebellion, I believe the story was not supposed to have a sequel originally. They came up with Rebellion and continued the story in a way I think makes sense, which is admirable. The movie itself has a couple outstanding scenes, but I cant connect with it the same way I do with the show. On the other hand, many fans enjoy the movie better, so I will be curious to hear what you think.

Nepherenia

Couldn't have explained it better. The Wraiths exist as the "curses" that balance out the wishes, thus defeating them and feeding the remains to Kyubey is the new source of energy.

I have decided to keep my mouth shut. There's nothing I can say about this episode without also talking movie spoilers. Except, I suppose, for the fact that I always cry when I see Madoka giving all the magical girls throughout all of time peaceful deaths. For some reason, despite not knowing any of them personally, it just fills me with an overwhelmingly bitter-sweet happiness.

Aaren YASS

Idk when we'll get the movie, but I can't wait!

just caught up to your reactions. Cant wait for the movie
