I'm a good 9 months late and I'm sure you've gotten a good bit of this answered, but two things to cover: 1) Yes, "Next Generations" entails that these are the children of Naruto's original cast. Similar to how your children would be the next generation of your family. 2) As for powers, it works like this: Each person has an affinity to one of the elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind and Lightning. Naruto, for instance, has a wind affinity. Sasuke "Electric Man" Uchiha has Fire and Lightning. Sarada is an Uchiha, so she naturally has fire as well. There's also Kekkei Genkai (abilities specific to a Clan, like how Uchiha has Sharingan, Hyuuga has Byakugan, Nara has Shadow Stitching, etc.) There's a LOT to talk about on abilities, so I'd recommend watching Naruto (Naruto -> Naruto Shippuden -> Boruto) in order to figure it out that way if you haven't already (Again, I'm 9mo. late to this channel for this). Also, before watching, I would look up the canon episodes so you don't get stuck in filler episodes (canon is the official story, filler episodes are the episodes made to hold over the audience while waiting for the manga to update or whatever the reason was for a lot of the filler).

Also forgot to note: Boruto started airing when I was like 15 or 16, back in 2016 or 2017. It's still coming out to this day if I remember right since the manga is still ongoing. 2002 is when the original Naruto series began airing, so it's the copyright used for Masashi Kishimoto, the mangaka.
