YESS IT CONTINUES! I really can't wait!

So I feel like this isn't the best place to start with the magical girl genre, but it's certainly an important one Generally speaking, magical girl shows are made for kids--stuff like Precure and Sailor Moon--so having a show arguably made for adult men (that still has huge cross-demo appeal) is certainly *a* place to start "Jumping right in the deep end" is a thing with anime fans outside of Japan, though, and then assuming that everything else in a genre is like the thing they just watched that was either deconstructing or celebrating all these parts of the genre that they weren't necessarily aware of

Anonymous

btw, will you watch all 12 episodes+the 3rd movie or 8 episodes+the 2nd and 3rd movie? The 2nd movie have some scenes that the anime series doesn't have in it while the anime series have some one liners when they announce the next episode which the movie doesn't have in it.

Nate Ming

Oh yeah, for any future anime that involves school: Primary/elementary school is grades 1-6 Middle/intermediate school is grades 7-9 High school is grades 10-12, but isn't compulsory

Cheh

just a little suggestion that it will be more enjoyable to put on headphone while watching, Madoka Magica OST is one of the best

Keith Merrington

Also in Japan, kids start elementary school a year later than in the UK, so... Shōgakkō (elementary school) from 6/7yo to 11/12yo = school years 2-7 in UK system, Chūgakkō (middle school) from 12/13yo to 14/15yo = school years 8-10 in UK system. Kōkō (high school) [optional] from 15/16yo to 17/18yo = school years 11-13 in UK system. After High School, youngsters often go on to University/College (Daigaku).

To be honest when you said you had the big C I thought in cancer xdd. I'm glad that's not the case and I hope you get well soon✌🏻

Nakirium

while i agree this is the best way to watch madoka, i dont think first time reactors should watch it like that. ive recc’d this series to PLENTY of people and watched it with them doing the 1-8+2movies but only because i was with them while watching it

There's a lot of different meanings for the woman removing her shoes before attempting to commit suicide. Mainly letting people know the death was caused by suicide. Sad this is something that actually happens in Japan irl

AchmodinIV SWE

I would wish for Space-time manipulation (that is if there is no major bad side effect. I can't remember what it is called)

BlekDimon

Hope you will get cured soon.

Von Yoosten

I actually made a List of Wishes I would ask if given such an Opportunity (prioritized, depending on how many I get). Sure Money is always nice to have, but you can technically get that indirectly through other Wishes as well. Also if you don't already have that, Love is something to wish for. Not necessarily forcing someone to fall in Love with you, but creating your own perfect Partner out of thin Air and manipulating the World so that her Existence makes Sense, potentially pairing that with an even more special supernatural Connection or something. The Reason it's hard to come up with a Wish on the Spot is that it's a Game. You can make a really smart Wish, or not. And the most immediate Wishes are likely the most flawed. But once you actually take the Time to formulate ideal Wishes and think of all of their Consequences, the real Question becomes: How does the Fullfillment work exactly, and how precise and collateral can my Wish end up being?

Von Yoosten

Taking off your Shoes is a Culture Thing. It's common in Japan before committing Suicide.

Omar Roque

I disagree, for me the cheat code in life in good health. I would want to have a healthy life for me and my loved ones, you cant buy good health with all the money in the world.

Sorcerer

Feel better soon Luke

RADWIMPS OSHAKASHAMA WHEN?

season + 3rd movie is the best approach for a first time watcher, kinda like with Made in Abyss

Lysandia

Get well soon, and if i may add a recommendation: The OP and ED are somewhat important, you should watch them at certain parts of the series. for example, ED is important next episode, OP later, they add quite a bit ^^

FaerieRose

Mami is 15 and the other girls are 14.

Binsk

Oof, no fun, get some rest, man! Hope you feel better quickly!

Nakirium

FUN FACT: The drawings that Madoka made were actually drawn by Madoka's VA! She herself drew them, and the animators included them in the anime!

Bård Fredrikson

The shoe thing is a Japanese thing. I'm sure you know that there's a lot of crushing work related stuff in Japan, especially with Black Companies and the like and a common thing for people who commit suicide is to take their shoes off. If you see people in anime take their shoes off, that is intentional imagery they are calling upon. Important thing to keep in mind.

Dang man, Covid sucks. I caught it a bit over a year ago. Wasn't too bad after about 4 days, but during that time I was miserable. If you need to take a week or whatever to kick it, then I'm sure we can survive without the reactions for a little while.

Katerflori

Get well soon! And thank you so much for still doing uploads even in your condition. It made my day a better one, being able to watch this!

JammySplosha

i would probably wish to be a genuis at anything i do in life, in madoka magica's situation specifically that would help in your fighting and normal life, money can come easily after that

Miklar Sihn

I'd wish for my life to be a good life that i will enjoy. That would leave me knowing that even if i meet any hardship or things go really bad, it will lead to something enjoyable for me. Therefore leaving me without any worries for my future. Though i might just wish that all people would live such lives, as i might feel bad otherwise.

Sai

Mahou Shoujo Luke.

i bought this membership because of this series. Really looking forward to re-experience madoka with you. hope you enjoy it as well

Crunchy Potato

Rest, Luke, we still haven't converted you into the rice cult.

Sakomi Arorim

for reasons later explained one can not become a magic girl while keeping the wish on hold

Anonymous

I might wish for the eternal peace of the whole universe if I can't come up with something I truly want. Though in some other animes this kind of wishes may be twisted and achieved by wiping out humankind.

Tom Boggess

he still doesn't know. no one tell him.

Cory Tripp

Feel better soon!

Sasane Sane

Time to put Sis Puella Magica on loop until next episode :p

Some0neElse

Dont worry. Your questions about witches and wishes will be answered. Also get well soon!

Vex Valor

In case no one else answered it yet, 3rd year middle school would be 9th grade. Mami is 15. Madoka and Sayaka are 2nd year middle school (8th grade) and are 14.

Vex Valor

The reason she took off her shoes is because in Japan, when someone commits suicide, they take off their shoes. So if you see neatly placed shoes on top of a building or by the beach, that means someone committed suicide there. I believe it is because when you go into a home, you take off your shoes, so taking off your shoes to enter the netherworld is symbolic.

Anonymous

Just to expand on the above re the shoes is also linked to how Japanese people tend to have outdoor shoes and indoor shoes, the outdoor shoes pick up dirt etc from the outside making them ‘dirty’ so they remove them to not make their homes dirty, linked to sucide they take off their shoes so not to take the dirt with them into the next life (or something to that effect)

Jason Frasier

The witches looking strange is intentional. They were purposely animated different to the rest of the series so they would look out of place with the rest of the world. This is reinforced by their strange designs that look like nothing we have ever seen before. They don't belong to this reality, and they look it.

Mike Baker

I’m not sure if we know at what point during the school year this is set, so Mami is either 14 or 15, and the other two are either 13 or 14. And for people in the UK who don’t know the weird US grades system 😜: Mami would be Year 10 and Madoka and Sayaka would be Year 9

Harley Burnie

Well, In Texas(so, yeah, the U.S.), most kids are 12 years old at some point during their 6th grade year. So, 13-15, most of us were in junior high school/middle school (different districts call that school building different terms). Considering most Japanese schools I've seen in animes have their middle school and high school last for 3 years each, and U.S. schools used 2 years jr. high and 4 years high school, kinda seems like Madoka and Sayaka would be 7th graders and Mami is in 8th grade. Does the UK have things like pre-school and kindergarten?

Harley Burnie

I think that no story about making a wish that you have to pay for would ever have a credit system. Kinda seems like the only way to turn into another being is to start the process with a wish :/ . It's funny how most of those questions get answered if you just watch. The thing with ALL of the Madoka Magica series is you are supposed to always have insane questions. That's part of the program. Condolences on getting the ick. You barely looks off at all to me. The hat was hella different, and your attention was rightfully derp, but looking good otherwise.

Thamor

I honestly would have never watched this anime without the amazing OST in the fights. The abstract art works just is annoying to my eyes in this anime every single time I see it.

Tom Boggess

iirc madoka and sayaka are 14 and mami is 15

Tom Boggess

i would never wish for money, money is so trivial. I would make the wish to know everything in the world. past future it would all be an open book to me. If i needed money i would know how to get it.

Tekbox

that's dark and sad that there is a tradition/custom to how to commit suicide

Anonymous

It is also for the practical reason of the jumper not wanting their shoes to fly off on the way down and cause damage or hurt someone else. That part applies to most cultures, it is the same line of reasoning for why someone slits their wrists in a bathtub or shower: so the mess is easier to clean up. It is very dark and very sad, but most suicidal people already feel like a burden and don't want to be, so they consider what they will leave behind as well. Neatly folded clothes, a note, their shoes, etc; they may take off meaningful jewelry too so these cherished things aren't damaged.

Kyle Garrett

If someone told me Witches were causing all the evil in the world, and that if I chose to fight them in return I could wish for anything at all no matter how improbable it is, then I'd just wish that Witches no longer existed. Then the world is a better place and I don't have to fight. With knowledge of the series I know that's a flawed wish (doesn't stop more witches from being created) but if I was offered the same info and contract as Madoka that would have been my wish.

Kyle Garrett

I think in general though if I could have any wish granted I'd want to have a stat system and gain exp for everything I do. Infinite potential there as you level up skills, and knowing exactly how good you are at something is really useful too.
