Ascendance of a Bookworm is an isekai :P . It is by far one of the best Novels i have the pleasure of reading. It has FANTASTIC world building (the novel at least) and i learned alot referencing the things i read in the novel ( for some reason i never thought that medieval houses could be multiple stories high).

Ascendance of a book worm is A) Fantastic World Building ...and B) has a more serious tone than the first 2 OP's let on...it's not dark, and it does also have a sweetness to it. But yeah...never watch the first 2 OP's before this moment and I'd definitely label them as slightly misleading. I highly recomend watching it next chance you get. It's completely ok for a youtube watch. Lastly, it probably wasn't recomended until recently, because it's not an anime you should start with. You should have a good amount of isekai/fantasy under your belt so you can appreciate this for the breath of fresh air that it is. See this early in your anime veiwing experience would be like handing someone a 5 star meal and then having their viewings after that seem like Burger King.

Ascendance of a Bookworm is quite similar to mushoku tensei in it's slow world building approach. The world is very thought out but it starts out small in scope. It is kinda a mix of mushoku tensei and Dr stone just without the perv stuff and wayyy sweeter. She likes books and does everything that she can to get her little hands on them. Don't wanna spoil anything so I'll leave it at that.

So glad you included the spoiler section! You kept saying how cute and sweet and wholesome Made in Abyss is and I genuinely couldn’t tell if you were lying or not XD But I came here to watch the openings and see if it would be a good show bc someone recommended it to me based on liking darker stuff like The Promised Neverland and Higurashi When They Cry, so the cutesy openings were really throwing me off at first!

I like S2 of MiA much more than the first one tbh. It’s much more brutal and adding so much more to the plot and the lore…

At this point in time a new season of Ascendance of a Bookworm has been announced and it will be done by studio WIT. One of the best studios out there. Think the studio which made original Attack on Titan (before the 3D crap), Vinland Saga, season 1, Vivy, etc. their animation is top tier.

I know one day, one day you will watch it. It is too good to be left on the sidelines forever. Especially when the light novel (original story books) have been winning “best novel of the year” style awards in Japan for years.
