WTF is this episode? I thought Rudy was meant to improve, not descend further into degeneracy. I'm not forgetting he's a middle age man in a child's body saying and having these thoughts about an underage person.

Roxy's face was shocked in the intro because she just found out about dead end and in the bar Roxy was jealous of Elinalese for her body, Roxy is self conscious of her small figure:)

Its a slow improvement as he grows up. Yes mentally he is a middle aged man. But he was reborn and has been living as rudeus for 11 years now. And if you grew up again you would most likely be more interested in women your age. I agree that he is still at this point a bit of a degenerate, but you also have to look at it from his current perspective in this world as a 11 year old boy (edited because i mixed up his current age in s2 and his age in this episode for some reason)

Rudy is known as Kennel Master Rudjerd, not Rudy, when he does something good he says he's Ruijerd, to help the Superd's reputation, if he does something that turns out badly, he uses his own name, hence the whole confusion about his name and reputation, that's why Roxy didn't figure it out.

Zenith is his mother, Lilia is the maid, and Aisha is his sister. His dad is with his other sister, Norn and was the one who sent out the request to help find the rest of his family. I think that part of the reason why Roxy doesn't think that Rudy is the "Kennel Master" is because they refer to him as Rudjerd, so the name is different. Also she is clearly very afraid of the Superd and naturally wants to avoid them. The possibility that Rudy would team up with one makes no sense to her.

So which Isekai would you put on number 1 right now? Usually Mushoku is often compared with Re:zero (in terms of BEST Isekai) and you will probably too at some point. But as of now i could only see Slime as Number 1 for you?

It's kinda hard to separate his mental age from his physical age when his inner monologue is of his middle age self. There is no acknowledgement of him being mentally middle aged and having awareness that his thoughts are problematic and he needs to do better and not take advantage of the mental disparity. It seems to be a case of 'well they're similar in age physically so he gets a bit of a free pass'. Now I will continue to stick this out. I'm not gonna be one of those 'I don't like it, so I'm dropping it early' people. I feel this world has great promise, but I feel Rudy's degeneracy is more of a detriment to the show than a positive. And this episode was especially hard to stomach.

MAKE A LIST OF NAMES AND ROLES!!! Seriously, you should know all these names by this stage. Anyway... Zenith is Rudy's mum (Paul's wife), Lilia is the maid, and Aisha is Rudy's half sister (by Paul and Lilia). They were all lost/separated during the mana disaster. The slutty elf lady is Elinalise. She has a good reason for being so promiscuous but I won't say here (spoiler). Roxy was not looking at Elinalise in a jealous way, but she was comparing her own looks to her. When Roxy was looking at those other adventurers she was just reminiscing about when she belonged to a party. Roxy doesn't know what Paul has done in his past. She only knew him for a couple of years when she was training Rudy. Roxy doesn't make the connection between Rudy and the Dead End party because Rudy (Rudeus) is referred to as 'Kennel Master Rudjerd' - so the name doesn't match. Also, when she came across Eris and Ruijerd sparring on the beach, Rudy was not with them.

@BornOfOsiris You're wrong, Rudeus is at this point around 12 years old while Eris is like 13-14 years old if I remember correctly. You gotta remember that by turning point 1 (the mana disaster) Rudy just turned 10 and not as much time as you think has actually passed since then.

Don't forget to watch the OVA after episode 16! it's completely canon and part of the story!

Man, the kill still hurts a lot in that scene. Great direction, 10/10. Not many appreciates this kind of stuff and thinks of it as bad because personally afflicted. Also, Roxy can't find about Rudy from the clan as in the past episode, no one remembers the name of the little mage, and there's probably a lot of mages out there who are small, race/species included

@TheMaltator I was getting confused with his age vs the current season for some reason. He is 15 currently in the new episodes and my brain was mixing the ages up i guess. Everything else i said is relevant besides the incorrect ages though

Look at these harsh comments - sheesh! Roxy, the dwarf (Talhand) ans the elf lady (Elinalise) are looking for Rudy's family members. Aisha and Norn are his baby sisters, Lilia is the maid, Zenith is his mom. They didn't get enough screentime and eith subtitles it is easy to lose the names versus the faces. You'll learn more as the story progresses!

We are the only ones aware that he has the mind of a "middle aged" man, The problem you seem to be having is that accounting for that he never developed relationships past the point of being a teenager. He spent to last 20 years of his life on earth in seclusion, refusing to leave his room due to the sexual harassment and trauma he suffered. Back in Roa just a few years ago if he had been in that same position with Eris unable to defend herself due to how seasick she was and in a state of undress. He would have 100% groped her and taken advantage of it. Instead he excused himself and went to deal with his sexual drive in private. That is growth for him and it will continue. He is also human. Let's not pretend that in the seclusion of own minds we don't all have to struggle with passions and lust. It doesn't mean we act on them and we see him now often not acting on what he is thinking. Things will keep improving in regards to Rudy's character growth.

Seriously - still bringing this up at this stage? Rudy's attracted to Eris. We know that. At least he's honest about it and won't do anything until Eris is ready. As far as Eris being underage - these 'kids' are slaying monsters and living their own lives. They are more responsible for themselves than most adults in our world are. If they can decide on all other (life & death) aspects of their lives then they are mature enough to decide whether or not and when they get together.

Keep in mind that he has only seen 13 episodes so far, so his view will probably change once he gets to the real meat and potatoes of the show. I say let's just wait and let the show grow on him.

@dragonguard666 I understand what you mean about the physical age not being a free pass, but at the same time. Its not like he was just reborn at that age. He had to re-grow up in a new world as a new person so that would change his outlook mentally as well. It definitely would be easier to stomach if he wasnt into younger girls in his old life though

People are allowed to find what Rudy does uncomfortable. I'm not forced to like it. Like I said I'm sticking this out, cuz I feel this anime has promise otherwise. @BornOfOsiris. Your last sentence, that's exactly it. If he wasn't shown to be into younger girls in his old life and he was just some bullied loner it would be a lot easier to stomach. Having that be part of his old character makes it come across to me more as rewarding that concerning behaviour, rather than rooting for the guy getting a chance at a happy life.

I'm not sure Roxy was jealous of Elinalise. I saw it as simply comparing herself and wondering if she was as attractive as Elinalise. I don't think Roxy wants to be promiscuous like Elinalise at all.

Roxy face was like that 'couse she heard "dead end" In last episode Rudeus, Eris and Ruijerd were talking with this guy about the price for a trip to middle continent and there was used Dead End, and Roxy knows that name as some1 from Superds and she is extremely scared of them. She was close enough to hear that but since she wasn't listening to whole conversation and was standing with her back towards them, she didn't notice that there was Rudeus.

Yes, Luke, you know all the names of Rudeus's family. Remember ep 8 just before the mana disaster :p. Zenith => Rudy's mom Paul => Rudy's dad Norn => Rudy's sis (Zenith & Paul's daughter) Lilia => The Maid Aisha => Rudy's sis (Lilia & Paul's daughter) And yes, Elinalise is a special character lol...you'll learn more about her ;). ps: There's no reason for Roxy to make a link with a random mage named Rujerd.

the very core problem here is people unable to separate his mental age to his current age. there's nothing to be done with it, he's around 10 years old now. that's what you should consider instead of keeping mind of what his age was before he die.

6:39 Roxy was told "Kennel Master Rudjerad" not Rudeus. The joke in the last episode was the ship merchant was saying Rudy's name wrong and that's the information that made it to Roxy's group.

I don't think Mushoku Tensei is the best isekai anime. It's just a latest anime that is trending and happens to be isekai. I think the world of this anime is interesting, it has a good character design and character development. Although I personally don't like Rudeus for his degenerate behavior, I think at times I can root for him. Overall it's a good isekai anime, but I can think of many other isekai anime that can be considered better than Mushoku Tensei even though they might be rated lower than the anime. More people watched this isekai anime compare to older isekai anime. There are so many hidden gem isekai anime out there a lot of people never heard of or completely unaware of them.

Mind naming some Isekai better than Mushoku Tensei? Only one that comes to my mind is re:zero, but it's still debatable. Slime does not come close and still lacks in many aspects. Log Horizon kinda fell off in the later seasons. Overlord light novel (not the anime) world building came close to beating MT (if the overlord side stories are included) until Maruyama decided to end the series sooner than he originally planned.

I don't know how to answer your question. Since I don't have a straight answer. I think I like Mushoku Tensei after a point in the story. Everything before that point feels so ordinary and mundane which isn't bad. I think the following isekai anime are more interesting than Mushoku Tensei up until that point where the story takes a turn: Re:Zero Log Horizon (First two seasons of the anime) Overlord (Season 1) Rising of the Shield Hero (Season 1) Hai to Gensou no Grimgar RaXephon That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime (Season 2) Eminence of Shadow No Game No Life So I am a Spider, so What? After that point in Mushoku Tensei becomes one of the best isekai anime and belongs to this list. Now the point where the anime gets better is when Rudy comes back from the demon territory after getting teleported and meets Paul. After that point the story gets better and better. I understand the whole build up before that point was necessary and there are so many intricate details here and there that I can appreciate, but before that point in the story everything seemed less interesting to me. I was so impressed by the following episodes and first half of season 2 that I wanted to know what happened next and started reading the light novel and loved it. So, the gist of what I am trying to say is I didn't like the first three quarters of season 1 of Mushoku Tensei as much as I did the remaining of the anime or other isekai anime. That's why I am saying earlier I don't think it's the best isekai anime as a whole. Overall Mushoku Tensei is one of the better isekai anime but not the best isekai anime.

Missed connections is gonna be a recurring theme between Rudy and Roxy, and for very good reason that you will learn way later, for now it's fine to see it as a cliche, because that's all it is right now... oh and also Roxy did say that their investigation was "half assed"
