Neon Genesis Evangelion feels like something everyone has to eventually watch eventually. it has such a huge influence on anime and is directed by one of the first true visionaries in the anime industry. its truly a work of art.

CurseMark4Life

THE anime that I would name drop at a moments notice after getting asked for a recommendation is 100% Bananafish. A great anime to ease someone fresh into the scene.

Oh myyyyyyy.... Haruhi!🤩🥰 One of my ultimate favourites! Most episodes aren't that deep tbh but the characters are written SO well and then there're episodes that are so very mysterious and even action-loaded from time to time and they just completely blow your mind, especially when the other episodes before were calm or funny. But the best part is the movie. It's almost three hours long and I've watched it multiple times. Also this show is one of the two shows I own every DVD of.💿 The other show is Attack on Titan xD (Still waiting for the release of the last two BluRays of AOT of course) The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will always be in my top 3! And I even think the show has shaped me a bit. I don't think it will if you watch it as an adult. Maybe.... But when I found this show in 2009 I was the right age to get influenced somehow. 😆 I even bought all the novels. Some of them were quite pricey and hard to find .... xD Yeah I love the show. I think you would enjoy it even though it's older now and there are more captivating animes. It's the characters for me - and once you find out what it's all about, I think you'll get fascinated by the story! ✨ I'd love to watch it again with you :)

My two "must watch" animes are Anohana and Angel Beats.

After Haruhi I think you need to check out the Lucky Star op.

idkwhy

You should def watch the song from this anime: "God Knows" by Aya Hirano!

Infinteginger

You should watch the openings for Gundam 00. Lesser known show but good mecha action

BRUNO Marques

Haruhi is a very unique take on slice of life. S2 is uh.... endless you could say. Works in book format but very questionable animated. Raect to K-on openings.

TsUNaMy WaVe

This brings back so much memories... I'm an oldie too as you can guess lol. Watched it back when I was in middle school. During anime convention times etc, everyone would know how to dance that ending song! Such fun times.

Slipstream

The gold standard for the "Everybody's watched it" is Cowboy Bebop. Please consider reacting to Gosick openings and ending. It's another popular older anime.

Karen Porter

I'm pretty sure "BLEACH" was one of those where it just, stopped, and people thought it was dead, only to come out with new episodes just recently after being dead for like a decade or something...

BlekDimon

Idk about the "everybody's watched it". I didn't. It also is at 50 and 43 place in terms of popularity on sites like mal/anilist. I know not everyone uses them, but still I think choosing an anime from the top5 most popular there would be the closest to get an anime "everybody's watched".

dpolaristar

You've reacted to Clannad, Haruhi, K-On, Violet Evergarden and many other Kyoani shows, but I really want you to react to Hyouka OPs and EDs (2 of each.)

Man. What anime should "you" definitely watch? That's a toughie. I'm biased based on what got me into it. The first anime I ever watched as a conscious decision was Ms. Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, and it won my heart. Hear I am almost 3 years later, and having watched over 300 anime series, OVas, and movies. Seeing that show convinced me that I would be happy finding and watching anime that fulfilled me. Funny though, I primarily only enjoy serious, dramatic animes these days, and Dragon Maid is just about anything but those things. Still, my heart beats a little stronger and deeper when I think of how very much I enjoyed that one.

Harley Burnie

Otherwise, I'd have to suggest something that had all of the draws- humour, solid storyline, lovable characters, hateable antagonists, hope for the future plot, emotional moments, and a solid OST. Maybe.....Shield Hero or Evangelion or Sword Art Online. Anime is just so personal to me.

Harley Burnie

That OP2 was just great. Never seen any of this anime, but I was just smiling so big during that whole OP. Dang.

Anime-Zone

Kuroko no Basket has some great openings and is an awesome anime even if you have no interest in sports like myself. Definitely worth checking it out at some point.

Jonathan Ness

I would say that Trigun and Cowboy Bebop are my two must see anime. They make pretty good gateway shows as well.

Valrenas

Flashbacks to the Endless 8....

Valrenas

The original Trigun is one of my all time favorites.... I still haven't been able to look at the remake

Mr. Dog

The one everyone should watch are the Hunter x Hunter, Trigun and Cowboy Bebob. There is also Gundam Wing. These are the anime that everyone should know about. (I could mention DBZ but that's just well a thing of it's own). Also I'm old school that loved the 1980's stuff. So back when I was in middle school in mid 90s The golden standard taht everyone knew and recommended to watch were Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Ramna 1/2. Or Gundam. (As I said before anything Gundam is fine because there is a Gundam series for every decade starting from 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. Like no joke)

Mr. Dog

Also fun facts. The first ending to Haruhi Suzumiya is sung by each of hte female characters in their character CD and the lyrics change to describe their personality or deep thoughts that aren't necessarily told out right in the anime.

RevyTwoHand

If you ever watch this incredible show, you should know there is a debate on the two ways to watch it. Chronologically or original broadcast order. I suggest original broadcast order. For one: it's most likely the way it would be on a blu-ray or streaming. Two: the "out of order" ness of the episodes was intentional to fit the tone of the series. Can't say why as that's kinsoku jikō (classified information) as Mikuru would say.
