I feel like kids shows in english speaking countries differ a lot from what i'm used to. this show wouldnt be weird on childrens channels in Norway. Maybe it would be after 6 so the smallest ones are in bed? but 7-8 years old? thats fine. And it would be more for the themes, not the violence. Who knows tho, maybe I'm wrong

To be fair, even Yugioh was quite a bit darker in the original Japanese version before it got censored for the west, even more so in the actual manga. There's a part at the beginning of the manga where the main character legit sets a guy on fire for losing one of the games.

I would say why bother with the subtitles if your going to watch it in English anyways. At least this way you can study more of the action going on other than trying to read words on the bottom of the screen and missing out of the action. Plus, this series follows more of the manga on how it plays out, the 2003 FMA only adapted half the manga and did their own ending.

Often with sites (and always with crunchyroll) they don't put up the english subtitles because the directly translated subs will be quite different (in a word-for-word way) from the spoken english dubs, and I guess people in charge don't care enough or want to pay to get proper subs added for the english audio, so they just leave it out. It's not a great practice

The main reason I'm mostly a sub only person is because it's hard for me to catch what they are saying sometimes without subtitles. It's not just because I'm not a native english speaker either, it's the same for shows in my own language.

For Eng subtitles on Crunchyroll, try choosing the option "English [CC]" instead of "English". I am watching FMAB for the 1st time also and I was already an adult when FMA came out. But this is shonen, the demography age/gender category - teen boys or yought but not kids 😁 Btw to watch Pokémon or Yugioh? Baah I could stomach only few episodes... It was boring as hell, and ugly and I could rant forever 😁For me these are overhyped marketing shows, same as many cartoons from 80s (He-Man, Transformers...) 20-30 minut toy commercials.

It is mostlly for non native English speakers. For example, even though I am pretty fluent in English, sometimes I dont understand what characters are saying if they say it too fast or use more bookish vocabulary, so subtitles help a lot

for subtitles you can try the boring way, download the mp4, download english .srt file , use vlc or other player and open the video put the srt and u have perfect subtitle

who is "you guys"? lol I was born in 83, the original came out on tv (where I lived) in 2004, and brotherhood came out in 2010. So I was 21-22 when I saw the original and 27-28 when I saw Brotherhood lol

If i recall correctly, it was much smoother in the 2003 FMA, or maybe it was due to being sub and not dub. I believe they rushed a bit the first episodes for Brotherhood, so they can reach more quickly the point where the story starts to differ.

Barry the Chopper is a reference (kinda) to the original animated series, where he _does_ appear as a person to Ed and Al, and then they later bump into him again as the suit of armor in the 5th lab. So actually yeah, your fake reaction is warranted lol

There are far too many times I've missed details because actors mumbled their lines or spoke words that I didn't quite understand. This is especially common in sci-fi and fantasy works where they make up words unique to their fictional world. Always-on subtitles remove this risk.

Just Download Multi version of Brotherhood and use VLC or MPCHC in order to fix dub subtitles issue.

The reason the storytelling feels weird, at least for the first part of FMA: Brotherhood is that it really is an abridged version of events. FMA (2003) told the same story in 26 episodes that FMA: Brotherhood (2009) tells in 10 episodes. Nina and her dog Alexander's story is presented in a far more sad, heartbreaking way, for example. Also, Alphonse and his identity crisis are elaborated on more convincingly thanks to the additional screen time.

I understand the reason behind why you want subtitles and i agree with it. But imo I'd rather have no subtitles like these last couple episodes compared to subtitles on Funimation that are mostly cut off and we can't even read them. That defeats the purpose and is just distracting at that point.

The Alphonse thing is an interesting philosophical issue. If we get down to semantics, what is even a human in a world where you can fabricate bodies? Does the soul exist or is Alphonse just a collection of Ed's memories given form? Does it matter? On the government thing, if we look at the UK, how many political parties are there each with their own motivations? Does the Mayor of London know about a lab opening up in Manchester?

I do notice a lot of Funimation dubs are very raspy Like maybe that's how they sell the "extra" part of a character, but it's a very consistent thing in English dubs, but I notice it the most with Funimation dubs

On Crunchyroll if you watch in DUB subtitles only working for TEXT on screen that needs translation or for something in background. You cant watch DUB and have SUBS on CR together.

Luke I started watching “Fullmetal Alchemist” when I was 7 year old But I watched “Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood” when I was 19 years old I’m a bit fucked up to love this anime as a kid 😂😂😂

In the original series Barry actually got an intro as a fully fleshed human. It's a shame the new series assumed everyone had watched the first one and skipped over so much characterization and interaction.

In US we have Cartoon Network for kids, but at 8pm it changes to "Adult Swim" and shows adult cartoons like Family Guy. Then on Saturday from 12am-4am they had Toonami, which was pretty much all anime and FMA was aired during this time. So many of us watched this in out teens, what we mean by "when we were kids".

FMA & Bleach started back in 2004 and as a young teen, i bought each season that came out. 4 years later, I got to meet the dub voices Vic Mignogna & Johnny Young Bosch.
