This anime is in my top 3 of favorite anime that I have watched and I hope that someday you will react to this anime, also as for the character you recognized, she is a very popular character for obvious reasons and is also cosplayed a lot. as for its structure its like slice of life in a post-apocalypse then mech battle then more slice of life till the time skip happens then you get the big space mech battles

Since you are a new anime fan, I'd like to suggest that you try out all the genres that make anime. This would be a good Mecha or you could always watch Macross Do you remember the love OVA or even Macross Plus OVA. To many people are suggesting FMA or one of the big 3. It would be nice to see a reaction channel react to shows that a number of other channel have not already posted. Other than that. Keep up the good work.

legit my favorite anime great watch. First watch trough was a blast, but on my second viewing I really got what the show was trying to say, and legit how deep while also staying light hearted it gets.

Been a long time since i"ve seen this but I think I know what happened with openings 3 and 4. Those openings were from the movies that came out summarizing the events of the series. IIRC they were called Gurren-Hen and Lagaan-Hen. The actual opening 3 was the rest of Sorairo Days (空色デイズ)
