Spice and Wolf is a great anime, esp the eng dub in my opinion just because of how soothing the voices are. While it does have a few more action packed scenes, on my list, it is THE best chill series.

Ahh Spice & Wolf, one of my favorites, it's a very chill anime, and yes, she is a wolf. The anime is based on a novel that was released on 2006 so it is around 17 years old

"Spice and Wolf" are not the names of the protagonists - its more a pointe you'll get when you watch the series :D I watched this when I was 13 years old and even today (14 years and hundreds of animes later) its still my all time favourite series (even ARCANE is still just my second place). Its a beautiful, heart warming and calm story in a very realistic medieval fantasy-world. You will learn many things about medieval living and trading and its really nice to watch if you want something "peaceful". The series has several tense situations, but nearly no action at all. But its really doesn't need it. Give it a try, you won't regret it :) And in the series she's most of the time clothed. And even the naked scenes aren't sexualised and theres a logic reason for that (not like in most other animes nowadays). Spice and Wolf is a beautiful example for the early 2000s animes, that were often more serious, more realistic, a bit calmer and less sexualised than modern anime. (just FYI: in the first episode is a weird cut in the middle. Thats normal. Its just a scene that was not so well recreated from the novel. Yes, its based on a novel, not a manga. The manga was produced after the anime)

Spice and Wolf came out in 2008 for season 1, and 2009 for season 2. Your theories are definitely... theories. The quirkiness of the ED reminds me a lot of Cibo Matto. I suspect you haven't heard them, though. Maybe I can recommend it on one of your streams.

I've heard of Spice and Wolf, but it never struck me as something I wanted to see. After watching the opening, I still have no desire to see it. Just not an anime for me. If you enjoy it, more power to you. I more enjoy anime like "Samurai 7," which has a magnificent OP and ED that you should really react to.

Spice and Wolf is pretty much a show about a traveling merchant and his wolf companion. A super economy focused show, so if that interests you then you’d love it

Luke, in answer to your question on why now the suggestion on these openings are coming up after all these years ... it was recently announced that Spice and Wolf is FINALLY coming back!!!! It's highly anticipated by a lot of us. Oh, and I think there is some sense to the lyrics of ending 1 ... I think it's to do with the old adage "sugar and spice and everything nice ... that's what a little girl is made of" which they juxtapose almost immediately after those lyrics with "I'm a wolf inside a girl".

spice and wolf is not often brought up but when it is everyone agrees that its an underrated masterpiece. I have literally never heard a word of criticism on it.

This anime is a hidden gem still. Anime is more for adults with it's heavy themes on trade and economic aspects, that is why it's not popular anime even when it aired.

Iirc, this is one of the show that has a lot of dialogues due to being a show about economics. After all of these years, the show has not concluded so you'll have to continue through the light novel.

Oh thanks for the info. Is the new content coming this year or just announcement they started to make it? Will have to rewatch from season 1 as forgot a lot of things that happened in it.

I'm honestly shocked that you haven't reacted to openings and endings of anoahana, monogatari series and Serial Experiments Lain . I also think it would be very interesting to see your reaction to openings and endings of erased, zankyou no terror(great ost overall) and wolf's rain.

I recommended monogatari series a lot of times, but he still didn't do it cause of copyright and he couldn't find the playlist with ops on yt. I gave him a link to aniplex videos with openings, so maybe he will do it as patreon exclusive or something, who knows, not me.

Well all the One Piece & FMAB type of fans rarely likes Spice & Wolf style of anime. Point is it's hidden gem in the sense for people who like to see sometimes different from just having OP shounen characters =)

I watched a few similar animes, tho I have not watched Spice n Wolf yet, looks temtping tho, maybe I will give a try after I finish monogatari series (hope I will finish it, I watched it 3 years ago and dropped bc of how overwhelming it is)

We're not sure yet. All Anime News Network said is "Author Isuna Hasekura's official website began streaming a video on Friday to announce that a new anime based on his Spice & Wolf light novel series has been green-lit. The announcement does not specify whether the anime is a sequel, remake, or an original work, but it features the taglines, "Shall we embark on a journey again?" and "Holo the Wisewolf and Lawrence the Merchant's story continues." The series is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary.". My guess is we're gonna get a "Fruits Basket" style remake but I'd be happy either way.

If you are going to watch it, expect more slice of life in medieval type world with heavy trade&economics focused themes in episodes with some small fantasy aspects. Do not expect anything heavy on action or something like from current Isekai shows. It's a good anime to just chill and watch the interaction between the 2 main characters of the show.

Hmm I heard great things about Shiki but then when I watched it, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but still, pretty decent anime.

Spice and Wolf is a weird genre of anime that jumps into medieval economics. But the hook is our main characters are a traveling merchant who comes across a forgotten wolf goddess now that another religion has taken her place of followers. She elects to travel with the Merchant as it amuses her and it's kind of a cute romance/social economics mix of a show. Beautiful animation as the openings can show. And since we are in this genre let me recommend "Maoyu" or longer title "Maoyuu Maou Yuusha" for one. It has a beautiful OP. Or perhaps something from a year ago "How A Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom". Granted the title is one of those that gives it away a bit more.

Though I'd recommend watching it on your own as it's not really reaction worthy; there's no epic plot twists or cool action scenes; it's more about the journey and the character interactions.

Great reaction as always! Never seen Spice and Wolf but it looks really interesting. You should definitely react to the opening and ending to Black Summoner. They’re both super great. The anime itself is not bad but the music in it is top tier.

2023-04-26 01:24:48 I highly recommend S&W, it's one of my personal favorites. Keep in mind that the anime is only two seasons, while the manga is still (last I checked) ongoing. Still worth the watch, but possibly on your own time since there isn't much action to react to, not sure how much that factors into what you decide to react to on the channel.

Back 10+ years this anime would always pop up in like the top 10 best animes of all time and now most newage anime watchers don't really hear about it due to all the anime that has come out since. But it is definitely a very hard hitting and well written classic anime. Holo is like one of the original waifu

This is a masterpiece and its even better in the light novels. Easily in my top 5 of Fantasy/Romance (novels) tho it covers tons more genres. Sadly I doubt it will ever see a full anime as much as I would love to see life breathed into it and its characters.

This is a fantastic series that's well worth watching. Shame we never ended up getting a season 3 or so to complete the story.

Don't know if you still look at responses to older posts, but Spice and Wolf, at it's core, is a show about economics really, and the relationship between the two main characters. The guy is a merchant, and the woman is traveling with him to help him out. I know, this makes it sound rather dull, but it's a very good show. The economics isn't the focus of the show, but it's used often as plot points. Well worth a watch.

This is one anime that I recommend watching in dub because one of my favorite English voice actors for one of the protagonists and he is really awesome.
