Levi and Mikasa never got hurt. They're both awesome, but a punch or a kick from a titan is more than any human can take. The steam was titan blood. Also, now you know why some people like to meme that the walls exist to protect the titans from Levi.

alright the OVA that people want you to watch is the origin story of Levi, there are a few names it goes by: Shingeki no Kyojin: Kuinaki Sentaku,Shingeki no Kyojin: No Regrets, and Shingeki no Kyojin: Birth of Levi, it's a very good side story, highly recommend it, I watched it after the most recent season and still loved it.

The reason there was steam, is because the Titan's blood is so HOT, that when it isn't contained in their bodies, it evaporates.

I believe the steam isnt their wounds the blood you see is from the titans and it evaporates

The steam is the blood of the titan evapourating off of Levi/Mikasa's body. After they cut the titan, they were splashed with its blood, and the cut off parts/fluids from the titan evapourate into nothingness. Its just the chosen way to explain away what happens to the titan bodies when Eren leaves them, otherwise you would have all these giant bodies that are just left over after he transforms, and huge rotting bodies after every titan battle. They had explained it in a previous episode too with Hange when she was experimenting on the two captured titans if I recall correctly.

You need to remember to earlier episodes, titans bleed and their blood steams and evaporate that way. So Levi wasn't wounded, but had Female Titan's blood on his face and that was steaming away from him. This is important to understand. But keep still making theories about what is happening as this show is a amazing mystery story.

It's even more sad when you consider that Levi didn't take the patch from any other member of his squad, it was only Petra's. This is the only time he was ever shown to have done this, and he was shown specifically taking Petra's. He passed by all his fallen team members in the forest and stopped only for Petra, showing that her death hit him harder than any other. And then after collecting the bodies he went to retrieve her wings of freedom patch as a token to remember her by, and yet he cares for his comrades enough to give up that token to comfort another soldier.

So; something I've never seen anyone else ever mention is Petra's dad talking to Levi. No one seems to pick up on the conversation. The dad was talking about a letter Petra wrote about wanting to marry. And guess who? Levi. And judging by the fact Petra's death seemed more important and he took her wings patch...he had feelings for her too. Am I the only one who has noticed this? It just surprises me that I've never seen anyone talk about how she wanted to marry Levi. There is a small chance it's not Levi, but it very much seems like it is him.

I guess I should have specified. I have never seen anyone who is reacting talk about it or someone commenting on a reactor's video talk about it. I'm sure in the forums and discord people have, but in all the reactions I've seen, neither the reactor nor the commenters have talked about it. I'm sure your right, I just don't usually go to the anime forums, just YouTube, Patreon, and the official anime websites like Crunchyroll. Thanks though 😅.

He didn't take Petra's patch. it was Ivan's that Levi gave to the guy who went back for his friend, BTW. the reason Levi couldn't fight is Mikasa's fault for trying to kill the female titan, instead of following the order to abandon killing her.

No he took Petra's patch. There's a scene early on in the episode where he is looking over Petra's body and taking the patch before they even go and get Ivan. He just told the soldier it was Ivan's to comfort him.
