Madara_Uchiha_2022

Last I checked Overlord isn’t in the comedy or parody genre. It’s a Dark Fantasy for a Reason same as AOT and Goblin Slayer.

Ultraporing

Overlord goes very dark places but they are mostly cut from the Anime. I'm sure LN readers will fill him in on the cut content when it comes up. Imo I felt Re:Zero started to drag on :(.

Ultraporing

Luke, Bonedaddy is the MC. If you think he is good or bad is your job to determine ;). You should watch it! The Author of Chainsaw Man and Author of Overlord are Friends and do good quality work. The show is heavier on world building, but awesome.

Ultraporing

Second that :) And some Black Lagoon for dark and gritty realist pirate action.

The Large Amoeba

The show takes a similar approach to a lot of Superman stories. Because Superman is so powerful a lot of his stories are about how the world handles his very existence. Overlord is similar in that aspect where in it likes to focus on how different kingdoms are organizations react and handle the sudden appearance of the titular "Overlord". The Show can indeed get very dark and violent. For example there is a character who has a "Happy Human Farm" There he breeds, harvests material; such as skin, and experiments on humans. The show mentions it periodically while the manga goes into some pretty messed up details. Just to give you an idea of the show. It is differently not for children. Lots of politics too.

do fairytail openings there good

Steven Hardy

Since no one in the comments said it outright: Overlord is a *fairly* dark isekai. What makes it stand out from most others is that the protagonist isn't a hero or even an anti-hero. He's the villain of the story. Anyone who argues otherwise simply isn't watching the show in the context of itself and just likes the MC as a character. If you liked Reincarnated as a Slime I would suggest it. You get a lot of the same world building, bombastic combat and fastasy wish-fulfillment.

Andrew Lavigne

Steven you did not read the web novel he more of a chaotic neutral

Steven Hardy

Ains is objectively a villain, regardless of what he himself thinks or what he tells himself to justify his actions. Hitler didn't think of himself as a villain, he thought he was a hero who was going to save Germany and bring it the glory it deserved.

Bryan Wells

bro WHY tf is everyone forcing this man to watch mushoko tensei before OVERLORD!!! I can't believe he hasn't seen this AMAZING anime yet!!! such a tregedy hes gonna get tired of esekais before he even gets to overlord...

rostikowb

Maybe you're right, it was a mistake to start with the best representatives of the genre, after them Overlord may seem average

rostikowb

Luke: I can't figure out who's the villain and who's the main character! Us: 😉

Overlord_Ashalon

Voracity is the best opening, hands down.

Overlord_Ashalon

You should react to some more Myth & Roid songs there, great.

SeparatiX

You really should check out the Endings aswell, they are really good.

I'd definitely recommend watching Overlord if you enjoy the openings this much. Very solid anime if you're willing to stick with it.

Anders Pike

Overlord Light Novels are all times greats. The anime isn't nearly as good, but still worth watching. Just be prepared for things being a bit rushed, especially in terms of animation in season 3. If you do watch it there are crazy fans (like me!) who are happy to fill in the gaps of information from the anime.

Hayden Steele

if you're looking for adult anime, look for the Seinen genre. Typically shonen is aimed at teenage audience and seinen is aimed at more mature audiences

Overlord is a fairly tame slow paced parody without any real exciting battles. So based on what you describe liking, I would say it would probably not be the show for you. Instead I would recommend Re:Zero if you want a show with a more adult content (in terms of themes, and gruesomeness of battles) along the lines of Attack on Titan

Inverse Voltage

I concur. I enjoyed Re:Zero way more than Overlord, and I think it would be right up your alley.

Zac Fairweather

A very underrated show that has similar themes to “AOT” would be “Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress”. The show didn’t get as much credit as I think it deserved

Saga of Tanya the Evil wouldn’t be a bad one to do either

Listening to you puzzle out the plot of the show was great. I really do think you would enjoy watching it.

You should for sure watch it

Overlord is good but ReZero is better i concur.
