My guess to why next season of SAO isn't released is because they are waiting for the arc to wrap up in the Light Novels or get more content. From what I understand there is 7 Light Novels released for the next big arc and it's not near done (This is speculation based on where the story is now). The author is a monster writer, he releases so many new Light Novels each year, last time I counted it was at least 2 new Light Novels per year. He is currently writing four other series on top of SAO namely; SAO Progressive, Accel World, The Isolator, and Demon's Crest. The cadence has slowed down for SAO quite a bit due to it.

the content density from one season to another is massive. season 1 got 4 volumes, season two also 4 volumes. then for alization was a massive 9 volumes, +2 of a side story inside those 200 years. hopefully we get a movie out of it or a long ova

The ending fight in Alicization arc probably could have been better as like Luke said, "why is he just standing there swinging his sword at the air. He could have just attacked Kirito". Yeaah.....I kind of agree.
