The "shita" on the end implies past tense. Basically enough time had passed since the thing they were thanking Pater for that it was more appropriate to use "arigatou gozaimashita" rather than "arigatou gozaimasu". It's like the difference between saying "thanks for that thing you did" rather than "thanks for that thing you're doing".

I’m really glad you can appreciate the slower pace of this season. Seeing someone genuinely enjoy the more subtle and nuanced development points—instead of looking bored because it lacks the constant and meaningless shounen, action and pew pew that seems to dominate a lot of the more mainstream anime—is truly refreshing.
