Peak episode. Cut our Goddess a little slack, Rudy was a literal child the last time Roxy saw him. I’m also really glad we got a mini Roxy POV at the beginning of the episode. I loved the Paul “Two Swords” Greyrat bit. This analogy is an anime original, in the novel Paul only says that he has something he wants to talk about but will wait to say it til they get back to the inn. The novel leaves it a bit vague. Roxy has definitely caught feelings but our boy Rudeus is a bit oblivious. He didn’t even realize she was basically asking him out on a labyrinth “date.” That little pat on the back she gives him is so cute. Very ominous looking teleportation circle at the end of the ep that leads to the labyrinth guardian…It’s going to be a long wait for next weeks episode on Father’s Day

Paul's little remark on how his "two swords" are essential to him, and how both have special meaning for him...well, I'm polyamourous, and you don't get to see many sweet, reasonable moments of representation for the sort of love I've found in anime. Just gonna point out that polygamy is generally accepted in this world. The anime doesn't do a great job of making that clear, but the light novel explains that it's only really the St Millis Church that insists upon monogamy. The only reason that Paul and the maid being together was a problem was that they tried to keep it from Zenith; if she'd consented to him marrying the maid as well before they messed around, they could have avoided a WHOLE lot of drama.

We did see a living example of the beast that Rapan is built under. Episode 19 at the 18 minute mark. It is white with bluegreen eyes. Also little reminder to whom it concerns. Next week is Father's day. If you have a good relationship with your father, tell him you love him.

So I'll divide what I have to say up into two separate comments. Firstly regarding Rapan as a city with some background lore having this huge skeleton towering over it. You see this was once a behemoth (a monster that you have seen), but a wayyyyy bigger and more ancient adult and therefore its size. You saw it run in the background while Elinalise and Rudy was travelling to Rapan in the dessert, as a white many legged creature but much smaller, maybe you remember now. But anyway the giant behemoth was causing havoc in the area back in the day before any city was there up until the north God Kalman came and defeated it. If you don't remember that name, he is is one of the three heroes that defeated Demon King Laplace (The demon king who waged war against humanity 500 years ago before being sealed by the Seven Great Heroes. Also the guy that transferred his curse to the Superd race which you know Ruijerd is a part of.) along side with Armored Dragon King Perugius Dola and Dragon God Urupen. He was one of the strongest swordsman in his generation, North God Kalman was also the first human to ever defeat the Immortal Demon King Atoferatofe, so his feats are quite up there! Well what was left behind was nothing but a rotting carcass one that would eventually attract all sorts of monsters and demons (since monster meat was the primary source of food for demons in the barren Demon continent), of those monsters ants were a good number of the monsters that had come to feast on the carcass and it was their tunnels that would create the numerous labyrinths surrounding Rapan. There is way more lore in the light novels building this world and I would recommend you reading it, it is such a cool world. Anyway I think I'll stop it here and continue with my second comment for this episode.

Some LN Extra Details (Volume 12 Chapter 4-7) provided by RizalBoon on Muse Asia, credit to them! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 - Rudy is jealous when Talhand is carrying Roxy. - The reason for Rudy's nausea stemmed from that he kinda understood now how Sylphie felt when he forgot about her before she revealed herself. - Rudeus said his spell is just mana enhanced Frost Nova when he froze all the monsters when saving Roxy even though Talhand and Roxy thought it might have been an Emperor-tier magic, Absolute Zero. Rudy just have that much mana... Scary. - When Roxy is saying how small her mana pool is, Rudy thought she might have same amount as Sylphie, or even more than her. - Rudy was referencing Ultra Slash attack from Ultraman when he and Roxy was doing the Icicle Blade and Stone Cannon combo together - Paul said he has a keen sight that helped him identify and bought his short sword in Rapan. That sword has Steel-Cutting ability and is able to cut steel in two even when used by his non-dominant hand, which is useful against Armored Warriors. - Roxy theorise that the beasts in labyrinth might be consuming mana as food, so Rudy thought that there might be mana that can be consume and the one that couldn't, such as magic attacks since they did not just eat his spells. - The party mentions that usually Ghislaine will usually help make the choice when they are having issues similar to choosing between the magic circles. - Rudy thought it feels strange when Ghislaine, who was the person in the old party that had still maintained contact with Paul, since she was in "Buena village" to his knowledge, was not here helping with the rescue. - The talk about women between Paul and Rudy was when the were peeing next to each other having a "guys" talk.

Mushoku writing is such a refreshing take on anime romance. Girls are not 1 dimensional like they are even in 'romance' genre shows. This episode made me realize Roxy is actually the best girl out of all i've seen so far.

If Zenith is still alive my assumption is there's like a hidden village or something down here she's been living in. That could even be why they stairs were blocked off / hidden. I genuinely don't see any other way she could still be alive considering how a single month was for Roxy. I'm also wondering if maybe there is a village and with no way out she just gave up on her old life and has settled down / started a new family there. That'd be a gut punch I could see the series doing too. But you're right, she could just as easily be dead, or being tortured, or a slave and it'd make perfect sense for this series.

Pretty sure I thought this was a poly world (pretty sure that was the case so long as everyone involved is ok with it). So if multiple wives is the norm, that comment isn’t weird. Pretty sure Paul is actually married to both Zenith and Lilia. Pretty sure we’ve seen cases of other poly relationships in this world too.

Yes, polygamy is widespread and highly normalized in this world. Really the only people who are exclusively monogamous are those who follow the Millis Religion but there are exceptions to every rule ex: Zenith Greyrat

Ye small but of cut info Roxy Rudy used water emporer spell absolute zero to freeze the room but he used the same as her, iceicle field. Just boosted it a lot more like he does with all his spells. Ghislaine always is the one to pick as she has the 100% chance to pick the wrong one. So they go to the other and it's always safe. Yes Ghislaine has that level of luck but it's never Failed them. And they missed the '3 mages' meeting. Basically talhand, Geese and Rudy taking a leak and talking lol.

I do like the additional context comments, like how episode differentiated from LN version or things that I might have missed/forgotten (Roxy's romantic fantasy for example). So they do often enhance the viewing experience. Normally comments are quite good with spoilers here with Mushoku Tensei. So hopefully things will go differently and I will be surprised, since there hasn't been any direct spoilers.

These are not spoilers, just to emphasize what we already know The religion to which Cliff and Norm belong accepts only polygamy, but it is only common in Miles. Paul and Lily are from Asura but Zenith is from Miles. So even though she expected something like this from Paul, who is a womanizer and is not held back by religion, she was still upset.

Small clarifications without spoilers: - Rudy did not tell Roxy about his wife and his son for several reasons, mainly because he was so happy to see Roxy again, he was solely focused on the expedition and they did not have much free time outside the dungeon (the trip to the city are mostly to replenish gear and strength) - No one at the party told Roxy about Rudy's situation since everyone was aware of her crush and by telling her the situation, the morale of the party will be crushed, which is pretty much a death sentence in an expedition like this (remember, S class dungeon, the hardest it is) - From this anime perspective, Paul is not really giving horrible advice to take Roxy as second wife. In this world, polygamy is the normal way to go (Except if you are from the Millis religion such as Cliff). Rudy being part of a huge clan, being OP af, a well-known magician, adventurer and scholar, pretty much puts a flag on his back that says "HEY! best option here to have several wives, the more the better! Get in line!". - We have seen hints of this during all anime, but it is not explained in full, but yeah, pretty much the only reason in this world for someone not to have multiple spouses will be: They are not good enough for that (status, power, stamina, personality, etc), they haven't found another person to love or they are part of the Millis religion.

so after watching this I'm wondering something... did Zenith get teleported into the dungeon? or just near it, cause if she wasn't teleported into it then logic would say she didn't find that staircase at the end of the episode... unless the staircase 'ceiling/cover' resets after a while.

I'll let you know some spoilers that will be mentioned in the next couple episodes. Ill give you very minor spoilers, somewhat bigger spoilers youll find out by the end of the season, and spoilers you wont see until probably the 4th season.If you dont want to find out, don't read it. She was teleported directly into the crystal seen in the opening from the mana disaster. Shes been there the whole time, unconscious. Slightly bigger spoiler, she's in a vegetative state and can't communicate with anyone. Huge spoiler, the mana disaster triggered a curse in her that enables her to read minds. She's essentially a cursed child. From her perspective, she doesn't feel like she's in a vegetative state, she perceives her life normally.

It's also really interesting to see Rudy slip into some old habits when he meets Roxy again. He's growing so much but he can also backslide sometimes.

About what Paul said, bear in mind that the world of Mushoku Tensei is strongly inspired by the Middle Ages. Polygamy is a normal thing in this world. Btw, the anime didn't talk about that but Lilia and Paul have been married for years now. For Lilia's sake and so Aisha won't be a bastard. Yep, Lilia is his second wife. It's the Millis religion that tends to put an end to this practice...just like the Church in the Middle Ages. The Millis religion is also the only one to have a wedding ceremony as we imagine it. That's why there was no such ceremony for Rudy and Sylphie's wedding. And that Cliff, of Millis faith, gave a brief sacrament.

A reminder from season 1 part 2 episode 2 Roxy verbatim says "one day a tall slim young man who's manly but still makes childish expressions will save me by chance in the depths of a labyrinth then we'll team up and as we work together love will bloom between us by the time we escape the labyrinth..." The foreshadowing was quite obvious they were gonna have a meet cute in a labyrinth as soon as the Demon Empress (whoops) said zennith was lost in one at the during part 2 of season 1. Regardless of Rudeus and how he feels she has romanticized this moment in her head for years.

We could see it coming. But Hitogami didn't say that in season 1, it was Kishirika who located Zenith for Roxy. Rudy was unaware of this until Elinalise joined him, which is why at the start of season 2 he looks for Zenith in the north and not the south. In addition, Hitogamie told Rudy 3 times not to join Paul's expedition to find Zenith in the Labyrinth. Their reunion takes place because Rudy didn't do what Hitogamie asked him to.

Man Paul so proud to be complimented by Rudy and also so eager to give very shitty about life & family. Having watched the opening I deduced something awful about this season and a certain scene this episode put the the nail in the coffin ⚰️.
