Anime gives a slightly distorted view of what Japanese school festivals are really like. For the sake of narrative flow it always looks like the class decides a theme, spends a couple of days prepping, and then the event seems to happen a week later. All the paperwork needed at the beginning (I would love to see what they wrote in risk assessment for this show! 😜), followed by months of staying late after classes to get ready gets glossed over (although, IIRC, Urusei Yatsura did a reasonably good job). That said, it is often the highlight of the school year. The middle school I went to in the UK had a festival every year almost exactly the same as Japanese festivals (but maybe with slightly tempered expectations, as the children were ages 8-12). So I’m a little sad that Luke missed out on that with his school.

Family issues are never something someone outside the participating members should give advice on. There are shitty fathers and shitty mothers in the world, and there's no undoing the damage they've done, especially to their child. Whilst I get your heart is in the right place, you are fortunate enough to not be a shitty person, Luke, and you don't push your children into situations where they're having to take the brunt of neglect/abuse (Emotional or Physical) (I assume, judging from what I've seen of you and how you react or talk about life situations in your videos). As someone who grew up in a household where the father took off for 10 years, then decided he was going to waltz back in like nothing happened and then continued to take advantage of my naivety until I was an adult when I realised I had to cut him off for good (that was about 8 years ago, I'm 30 now), I can see where Taiga and Minorin are coming from. I've also been on the receiving end of people who tell me, 'oh but he's trying' or 'but he's your father, it seems like he cares', and it's so very condescending, infuriating and rude to hear that from people who have not had to deal with the emotional trauma that comes with that kind of parent. People only ever see the surface level of what the shitty person wants others to view them as, until the damage is done and it's too late. I hope this gives some perspective. I'm still enjoying these reactions!

Another show with a great dad is "Capeta", it is simultaneously a racing anime
