Yeah the ending of the sisters in the novels, are even more sad. Getting sold as slaves, raped and dying slowly is even sadder after this episode.

Undead is a word used to describe someone already dead but still animating itself and having consciousness. It does not mean a living creature. For example: a vampire or an elder lich. Undeath is a word derived from undead and does not mean someone living.

So, I see the comments about the two little sister being sold into sex slavery to pay towards the parents debts, and then they die the traditional Japanese way- "overworking." And yeah, in the WN, magic girl lives as Shalltear's sex slave going forward. Maybe slightly better off than dead, though the eternal sadness of not saving her wee sisters could be awful for a long while. I didn't see anyone point out that that first heap of gold in the sarcophagus was there to offer a way to say, "Alright. We got enough treasure. We don't need to to actually go in the crypt." If they left with just that, they would probably have not died. I sis b
