Harley Burnie

Oh, boy. It's here. Ne spectacular anime, adapted from a stellar manga. This was a helluva finale. I'm glad you got to watch this, and I hope you're feeling much better, Luke. Btw, if you're gonna follow up on a manga, I suggest this one immensely. You WILL get answers to some of your questions about the anime, but you will also end up with more questions that you can imagine. Also.....it was the epitome of woe for me, but damn, am glad I read it.

Harley Burnie

4:00 Well if they WERE twins, wouldn't giving Tokio only one of them be pretty jacked up? Though, you seem to have missed the names on those baby beds. "Jr." and "Jr. C." What might that "C" mean?

Harley Burnie

13:55 OH, Luke! You just pointed out something I missed! That girl who was looking after Maru, after the gang he was in was wiped out, I just remembered her being covered in those black splotches, just like the kid at the facility!!! She had that illness, she had a gun from the facility, she knew a LOT more about Maru than anyone else.... She had to have turned into a Man-Eater(I can never remember the other damn name)! I just don't remember anything about her after her talking on her deathbed.

Harley Burnie

20:00 Oh noes. I was greatly hoping for your revelation here, Luke. His hair. Her button. Remind you of anything?

ShiroHakuShu

Just a small note regarding the entire series: There are a lot of hints through the series itself that all make sense after you see episode 13 or see some things happen in the other episodes You might wanna revisit some episodes just for those hints and try to build the puzzle of the entire series if you'd like. One of the hints i could tell you is look where else have you seen the button/badge with that logo

nik

people say Maru means circle... and this episode it was shown that one of the twin babies had a circle drawn on their foot with a sharpie... I think that was, what people were referring to when they said it should reveal a lot lolll btw love the reactions Luke! Hope you feel better real soon!!!

Chyro Nighthowler

Was kinda funny to watch him go on about that quite shortly after the scene with the babies was shown ^^

DerOger

Hope you‘ll feel better soon and that your voice recovers. But I‘ll have to say….I really like the more „mellow“ greeting at the start of the videos. Not a fan of the loud shouting, but I guess I‘m old 🤣

Big T

Very much agree. Rewatching this season really makes you think back on things that happened earlier in the episodes and connecting the dots for all the foreshadowing.

Damaton

Its a shame he didnt get the button scene but it is what it is. You cant always get everything

Keith Merrington

Maru means circle. The doctor marked one of Tokio's twins feet with a circle (the twin that they DIDN'T give back to Tokio). So that was Maru. That's the connection you were supposed to make. Thanks for the reaction. Looking forward to Vinland Saga tomorrow. I'm sure you'll enjoy that.

Keith Merrington

Heh! yeah - I was reaching for the volume knob as well. Nice surprise not to get blasted. :-)

slipstride

The only connection you seem to have missed is the button scene between silver haired dude and ear flap girl that was a big revalation scene of the two you met earlier in the series ment to give u context to the time line as they are the girl who was hooked up to the machines and the doctor that alt f4'ed himself on the rooftop other than that you did pretty good this series doesent hold your hand at all

Daniel Griffiths

this season made me read the manga... dw i still got questions lmao

Muligan Shinzuo

The anime is a faithful adaptation to the manga, you get answers to some question later on in the series but the series raises alot more questions as well. Maru meaning circle is important cause the symbol of the babies foot is a circle, however you already assumed that one of them could be maru this would only have confirmed that idea. Hime giving the button to the guy should give you some clue as to who those characters are (iirc people already spoiled this one).

mjaomjao2

I don't know if it ever actually gets confirmed (or even is true) but it was heavily implied in this episode that Robin was the one who shot Harukis sister.

s4ean

The OST they played during that scene was the same as well for both moments to tie it together, but a lot of people don't seem to notice.

s4ean

Luke remember, there were two facilities. This was one of them.

Beta

Well here's the end of the first season, honestly the adaptation was damn near perfect and even made a few vague points from the manga much clearer and easier to understands (Yes I'm talking about Mimihime and the Button) But the main thing I wanted to mention is Kiruko, Maru and Robin, first is the reason why Kiruko asked Maru not to kill Robin and honestly its simple, its a sort of Stockholm syndrome I guess, she hasnt processed everything thats happened and its often the case with SA victims where they have difficulty believing or understanding that someone close to them could've done something like that and as much as its hurts to see her stop Maru it makes sense. Lastly Maru's confession to Kiruko brings up the point I made under last episodes reaction, that Kiruko is not Haruki or Kiriko but is her own person, the person that he loves and wants to protect and I think it's that confession that properly begins to open up Kirukos eyes to that fact and seeing as she is no longer the boy that idolised Robin she can let go of him and instead look towards other people to put her trust and care into aka Maru Anyway Peak anime 10/10 season 2 in 2025 please ;-;

Mike Wang

Wait...I thought he already figured it out (or maybe spoiled) and that's why he is so calm XD

2024-04-10 22:50:13 Did you catch that Mimihime (long ears) and Shiro (grey haired boy) are the couple from a few episode ago, Dr Usami who gave his eyes to Mimihime (He was holding the button that she gave him in this episode before ending himself)

Can’t wait to start Vinland Saga tomorrow. Day 44 requesting that we watch Ascendance of a Bookworm after Vinland Saga.

Here's a help in understanding this season 1 (no spoilers on what happens next, I'll update as details come back to me) 'cause many questions have been answered or answered in part : - Mina (the facility's AI) helped the children get outside. She also protected the love story between Tokio and Kona. - Tokio gave birth to only one child. The facility team always talks about her child, not her children. . Yet there are 2 similar babies. My deduction is that one of the 2 is a clone. . Maru means "circle". During the confusion of events at the facility, Sakota (the doc with the glasses) can't remember which baby is which and marks one of them with a circle under the foot (ep12) without being sure whether it's the original or the clone. . A baby is returned to Tokio. - When the children go out into the world, apparently the great disaster has not yet occurred as we can see in the post-credits scene. - For the moment, there are no clues, no specific reasons to think that bringing out the Hiruko is intended to harm the outside world or that the 4 children have anything to do with the great disaster. - The children are called Hiruko (ep 11 makes this indubitable) . Hiruko are the result of genetic modification. (one of the point of the facility) . Hiruko have extraordinary abilities, "powers". . Hiruko seem to sometimes/often suffer from a strange disease (the one that blackens the skin) that the facility team try to understand and cure. When they die, something strange happens. Over the course of the season, we come to understand that there is a link between the Hiruko and the Man-Eaters. It seems that when they die, the Hiruko become these morfed-Hiruko. So every Man-eater is a Hiruko who has died. - Maru has a power. This Maru-touch allows him to destroy the "hearts" of the Hiruko (morfed or not). And Hiruko only. This power doesn't work on humans. - When Totori (the "Hotel Queen" girl in ep 6) wants to give Maru a "great time" and his hand touches her skin, The Maru-touch is activated... - The Shiro's confession scene in this ep, with the music and the button, makes it clear that the Shiro-Mimihime couple (the girl with the ears) are the doc and the mutilated girl from the tragic/emotional ep 8. . Mimihime has the power of premonition. . At the end of ep. 8, Mimihime dreams of her future, she's in a cave in the dark (symbolic of death). She rejoices that a light is coming and she takes someone by the hand to leave together. Symbolic of Shiro joining her in death after shooting himself in the head (scene on the roof ep 8). . As they emerge from the facility, Mimihime is amazed by the sky...the sky she asks to see one last time before she get killed by Maru in ep 8. . When she dies, Mimihime thanks Shiro for allowing her to die as a human (killed by Maru, she won't become a Man-eater) which means a lot to the Hiruko. . When Mimihime looks at Ohma (the little girl whose eyes provoke hallucinations of the victim's worst fears), the visions concern medical tools that bruise Mimihime's body => a manifestation of her fear of a future in which her sick body will be mutilated and connected to machines. . In the infirmary, Mimihime talks to Kona about her power and has a vision of Kona's future as Morfed-Hiruko, that seems not unfamiliar. - Kona has the power to image future events in these drawings (not necessarily consciously). paying attention to his drawings can provide clues. - Ohma has the power of hallucination. The Man-eater from ep 7 has the same power... - Mikura (ep 1 or 2), the woman who told Maru about the Maru-touch, and gave Kiruko the Kiru-Beam and the mission to escort Maru to the Heaven to find someone with the same face, died of this strange disease... - Haruki has undergone a brain transplant into his dead sister's body by a mysterious doctor. A practice not unknown to some at the facility. ...will be update

Reennji

I would like to see you react to Evangelion or Haruhi.

John Stevenson

soooooo when are we watching the next disney jail show that is summer time rendering, a show i personally think you will really like

MixRex

bro why are you writing this... if he didn't catch that just let him possibly get it in the future, don't spoil

Aaren YASS

i double this. However both have a lot of "spinoffs" and stuff but only one of them is necessary. He'd need some kind of guide. (Mostly Eva, has a proper order to watch) -

Dj

I didn't notice this the first time watching, but based on the at 9:23 either kiriko and Robin had a relationship, or Robin forced himself on kiriko as well.

BornOfOsiris

@mixrex It is not a spoiler. It is easily inferred by watching the show. I have neither read the manga or looked anything up online and I made the assumption that they were the same people. And the last 2 episodes of the season all but say it plainly

Dave M

god when usami's sound track kicks in with shiro and hime. rips me up. O and I know do dont go spammin me I'm sure yall have already

Rob

I’d say this IS the moment to tell him haha, the ost, the button, the blue sky…

Rob

But i’m sure he already knows, he mentioned things about spoilers/speculations about characters in previous comment sections, i’m pretty sure those spoilers were about those two characters..

ArtKi

16:52 "Climb a tree." That's something that would never occur to those ... people who spent their whole lives in the facility. 17:07 "the bird... must have a camera in it." Birds Aren't Real!! 18:25 "Why does that make sense?" (about the river running from the school. These "kids" have zero idea about the outside. They still think they're indoors! If they see a river .. . well of course it runs away from the school. It can't be coming from somewhere else because they don't know of anyplace else.

Rob

Pretty sure he was spoiled about this, but i was expecting at least some kind of mention haha

Robert Becker

It isn't a spoiler to clarify something that was missed by someone watching it. He has watched the entire season if he didn't catch it, than it should be pointed out incase it has relevance going forward when/if season 2 comes around.

Danielius Stanevičius

her name is Mimihime. Its not circle in japanese but mimi - ears and hime-princess

Keith Merrington

OK, I'm going for it. SPOILERS AHEAD - STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW... Shiro and Mimihime are Dr Usami and his female patient, whom we meet in episode 8. He was keeping Mimihime alive as long as possible by excising the infected parts of her body. He also wanted to keep her alive so that she didn't turn into a man-eater (a hiruko). Mimihime was impressed by the blue sky when she first went to the 'outside of the outside' and her last wish was to see the sky again. When Dr. Usami (Shiro) killed himself, we again see the button that Mimihime gave him all those years ago when he first confessed his feelings for her. Maru was able to destroy Mimihime's hiruko core, ensuring her a normal death. Shiro knew Maru could do this as he had dispatched the hiruko in the basement. That hiruko was the hiruko form of Ohma - the little girl with the dark glasses, who could give others hallucinations, and who befriended Mimihime. At the end of episode 8 (after credits), we see Mimihime as a 14yo again, meeting up once more with Shiro - presumably in an afterlife. Finally, we see Mimihime talking with Tokio 15 years earlier back in the Takahara Academy, where Mimihime is happy about a dream she had - presumably of her life and afterlife to come with Shiro,

Frentzy

Unrelated to the anime but, I find it funny, every time luke did attempt to change mic and settings, he would be sick. How he manages to only do that when he gets a cold XD.

Keith Merrington

It's only really a spoiler for someone who wants to watch it again to try and figure things out for themselves, or maybe someone who wants to read the manga. I doubt Luke will have the time or inclination to do either.

Soulhind

Thank you for your hard work despite being ill. Loved your reaction, love your theories. I haven't seen anything else than these 13 episodes, and I enjoyed them. Even if many things are still wrapped in mystery, I can deal fine with that. This anime gives me more Shinsekai Yori vibes, than Made in Abyss, but since you've never seen the former (which I don't recommend for you until a year more of anime, and not being ill at the time of watch ;) ), I understand how you can compare it to the latter. And yeah I can't wait to watch Vinland Saga alongside you. It will be my first watch ! Tanoshimi !

Soulhind

Thank you for your comment, it indeed helped without spoiling <3

Frentzy

People ask for evangelion but no one asks for Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Seen multiple mechas but that one felt the most realistic, down to earth story out of 'em all that can be enjoyed even by non mecha fans. (86 and code geass have mechs as well and are non mecha shows but i still feel the mech aspect is bad in those and they do not really provide a PLUS to the story, just change the mechs with some other high sci-fi technology... and they are same level enjoyable)

AngelGxbriel

I think you should do a manga live read, cos S2 hasn't been renewed for all that I know, correct me if I'm wrong. But that would be fun.

Asher Sanjan Abraham

Trust me, you are in for a RIDE for Vinland Saga. Dont go ahead of Luke because there will be certain episodes that really wish you'd do so. Enjoy the experience, cherish it.

Stefan

My man, pls replay this episode at 19:53, this was the best opportunity to see something, it was so obvious, you even were focused on something relevant. Can’t believe you did not notice it. They did Zoro dirty in this anime🥲 and yeah it doesn’t seem as a finished season, it could go everywhere

syaimaral

7/10 I think the series does a good job of keeping up the intrigue. It keeps you guessing and doesn't straight up tell you the answer. It drip feeds you information and lets you come to your own conclusion. Not many anime do that, I respect that. I'm very glad we got some revenge for last episode. It doesn't completely make up for it but at least there is some satisfaction. Last thoughts, I bet one baby was naturally born, and the other was raised from a pod.

Fábio Almeida Rocha

Hey Luke, i've watched this show multiple times and the first was in the premiere. Can confirm, Avid still is a banger and i cry a lot with it
