It's so weird having watched this a few times before that I can only see Frieren when Futaba is talking. Frieren has just become such an iconic character for me I guess

What is in that Japanese water that makes everyone catch a cold at the slightest bit of exposure to it?

Been loving these reactions, this show is one of my favorites. I'm gonna see the double feature of the 2nd and 3rd movies in theaters next week so this has been nice to refresh my memory of the first season.

10:02 “They call it IDs” SMS never took off in Japan because it was always Latin alphabet centric. Also, Facebook, WhatsApp, Kakao, etc. are pretty niche here, too. Some people use iMessage, but the main way to communicate is with Line. Line is such a de facto standard in Japan that even some government services are offered through it (although the government is so technologically inept that it’s probably safer to avoid those…). Line uses “LINE ID” instead of phone numbers, so for the last 10 years or so (Line became popular in 2011-12) it’s been more common to hear someone ask for your ID than for your phone number or anything else. (IDs can be typed in manually, but it’s more common to use QR codes, which is why you see that in a lot of anime). Trivia: When Japanese people play Doki Doki Literature Club they find it weird and a little anachronistic that the girls ask the main character’s phone number!

12:34 The anime came out in 2018, but IIRC it’s set in either 2014 or 2015

16:20 Not changing out of your wet clothes quickly (and preferably having a hot bath/shower) will cause you to catch a cold is something like an old wives tale in Japan. The equivalent in the UK is prolly the idea that if there is a banana peel on the ground then someone will always step on it and slip up (hidden Jonathan Creek reference for anyone old enough to remember that show).

Bunny Senpai is a show that uses the supernatural to talk about serious social issues and the malaise of Japanese youth. Each supernatural event is related to the themes dealt with. You're absolutely right, the writing and characters are just excellent, accurate and realistic. You're not ready for the last episodes and the movie... ps: Sakuta-Mai, best couple !

Mike Baker

Exactly! (On both your points!) I think the Mother’s Basement YouTube channel put it best: the supernatural events aren’t the main focus of the story, the real-world, down-to-earth problems are. The supernatural elements just provide that sense of importance and urgency to resolving the actual problems, and makes them “un-ignorable”.

Mike Baker

42:03 This time I’d recommend the two Mother’s Basement videos over Gigguks

I can sympathise a little bit, but only because every time I watch Frieren I keep hearing Futaba! 😛

At 1:17:30 i can only think about the meme with Hulk who said " i see this as an absolute win".

damn im jealous....if only it was in any cinema near me, but per usual, anime films are really rare

Luke bragging about only having one friend... Hah! I win! 0 friends😏

One of my favourite amine... Such an enviable relationship between Mai and Sakuta. Mai is actually my first anime crush ☺️ BTW, don't tell people you leave your window open all night... Someone will come in and fart on your chair or something

23:09 If she was a real demon, she would kill her (Frieren VA)

back in the days of landlines and phones without speed dial, I memorized most all of friends and some family. Now I can barely remember why I walked into the kitchen. Also, enjoy the days of your kids jumping on your head in the mornings, several years down the line, they get older and it just ends.

Not sure if it's been mentioned Luke, there are 3 films. I haven't seen the second two. In fact, I didn't even know about them until today. But the first film is excellent.

Hayasaka from Lowe is War at the end?

rakka

I'm going to the movie theater in a couple days to watch the newest Rascal Doesn't Dream movie, I literally have no idea where the story is going (I haven't read the books yet), but I'm SO happy to see these characters again. I absolutely fell in love with Sakuta and Mai's relationship, I love the OST, and I love seeing other people captivated by it. I'm so happy that people are still watching this show

rakka

33:52 "I am the pinnacle of male evolution" We shouldn't have asked him to watch Fate, he's turning into Gilgamesh. It's only a matter of time before he starts wearing golden armor on stream

Hitsters

Wait there's three movies ? Well guess I have two more to watch
