I sat at the dining table, my mind swirling with confusion and disbelief. My parents had just dropped a bombshell on me, revealing that our family belonged to a race of Gigantic Alien furries called the Nilock. As I looked over at my sister Valora and my brother Jerob, their calm expressions reassured me that what our parents had said was true.

My father, leaned forward, his eyes filled with a mix of concern and determination. "Braden, we know this is a lot to take in, but we need you to understand. Your mother and I are wanted criminals on our home world, and we can never return."

I could feel both of my brows furrow in disbelief. "Wanted criminals? What did you do?"

Dad sighed, exchanging a glance with my mom before continuing. "It's complicated, son. There are forces at play that we can't fully explain right now, but trust us when we say it was necessary for our survival."

"But why didn't you tell me before?" My voice voice quivered with a mix of hurt and confusion.

Mom reached out and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. "We wanted to protect you, Braden. The truth is dangerous, and we didn't want you to become a target. But now, circumstances have forced us to reveal everything."

My mind raced with a whirlwind of emotions. I couldn't comprehend how my seemingly ordinary family could harbor such a remarkable secret.

I looked around, my eyes darting between my sister, Valora, her husband Kurtis, and our family. The weight of their revelations hung heavy in the air. Kurtis, an alien? Lexie, too? It was hard to wrap my head around it all. Valora must have noticed my confusion because she reached out and gently touched my  arm.

"Braden, Kurtis and Lexie are just like us," Valora explained, her voice calm yet tinged with a hint of sadness. "They escaped their home planet with Mom and Dad, and now we're all being chased."

I blinked, stunned disbelief washing over me. "Chased? Why? How?"

Lexie stepped forward, her gaze meeting mine with a mixture of determination and fear. "Braden, we're being hunted down because we escaped. We're considered traitors to our own kind. We had no choice but to leave everything behind."

My mind raced, trying to process the overwhelming information. Aliens? Traitors? It all felt surreal. I found my voice, shaky and uncertain. "But... you don't look like aliens. You all look human."

There was a momentary pause, a silence that spoke volumes. The family exchanged glances, as if acknowledging a hidden truth. Finally, my mom, Robin, stepped forward, her voice soft yet firm.

"Braden, our human forms are not our true forms," she explained, her eyes filled with a mixture of sorrow and hope. "We possess a unique ability called hyper evolution. It allows us to take on forms that best suit our survival needs. It's like a type of camouflage."

My dad, Clifford, continued where my mom left off, his voice resonating with a sense of authority. "When we transform, we become taller, more robust, and our features become more animal-like. It's a controlled process, but it's not without pain."

I watched, wide-eyed, as my family members began to undergo a slight transformation. Their bodies grew taller, their faces shifted, taking on subtle animalistic qualities. They winced and grunted in pain, their discomfort apparent.

I couldn't believe my eyes. It was like witnessing a miracle and a nightmare all at once. My family, the people I thought I knew so well, were something entirely different. The reality of their otherworldly nature washed over me, filling me with a mix of awe and fear.

"What in the world..." I whispered, unable to tear my gaze away from the extraordinary sight.

Kurtis stepped forward, his voice steady and calm. "Braden, our true forms are much larger than any human. You wouldn't even recognize us."

"How much bigger?" I managed to choke out, my voice barely a whisper.

Valora stood up, her movements slow and deliberate. She walked towards me, her footsteps heavy with purpose. I felt a shiver run down my spine as she leaned closer, her lips brushing against my ear.

"Let's just say, little brother, that my true form would put the Empire State Building to shame," she murmured, her words sending a jolt of both wonder and trepidation through my entire being.

My heart skipped a beat, my mind struggling to comprehend the enormity of it all. Just as I tried to gather my thoughts, my dad's voice broke the momentary silence.

"Enough," he said firmly, his gaze focused on me. "We don't have much time. We need to get to the point."

I swallowed hard, my anxiety mounting. My dad explained how the moon's energy, during certain periods of the year, interfered with the higher brain functions of the Nilock, our alien race. This caused them to lose control. This process lasts for a week max and will be starting soon.

Hearing this I begins to sweat. "Oh Crap."
