We live in a world with base 10 number system, where everything is numbered from 0 to 9. In a hexadecimal system, numbers are written with base numbers 0 to F (F being 15). For example, the number A1F is equivalent to 10*16^2 + 16 + 15 = 3,871 in the same way that 178 in base 10 is the same as 1 * 10^2 + 7*10 + 8.
