What She Knows is an art practice which prompts you with a daily statement and I am answering  in my native language of collage. My previous responses are collected here. The prompt this day was:

I feel held when...

I feel held when I am in my garden- especially when my hands are actually in the soil or are on the plants in some way.

I wreathed the hand-placing-seeds photo with the cut out radishes (and one lettuce leaf) to create the feeling of the gardener being "held" by them. "Engulfed" may be the more accurate word. But, y'know, held/engulfed/encircled/nestled, that's how I feel when my hands are in the soil and I'm surrounded by my leafy, growing things.

Also! Hot Collaging Tip!

Raid your local secondhand shop for image-heavy books. They tend to have really beautiful, full size images printed on high quality paper without too much obtrusive text overlapping on them (like magazines do).

Cooking, gardening, classic and contemporary art, children's picture books, interior decorating, yoga, crafting- there's all these big, expensive hard cover books that would cost $30+ new, but when when people are moving or downsizing they just donate them to charity and secondhand shops where you can pick them up for a song! I have cannibalized so many fancy-pantsy super expensive Jamie Oliver cookbooks that I bought for just a couple bucks or even picked up for free from sidewalk giveaway boxes or Little Free Libraries.

Library book sales are another good source. And old calendars. I'm still so impressed by your clean cuts! Can you tell us what knife/mat you use?

ErikaMoen

Just generic blades! An x-acto and a small boxcutter-type. The mat is also a generic craft Matt. I'm a basic bitch!
