Public domain characters (Patreon)

Over on FB I've been talking about Public Domain characters and how people should use them. It means classic, some famous, some forgotten characters that are free to be drawn, used in comics, art etc. 

Often a commen sense rule to useing PD characters is either use their original design, or come up with your own version of that character, and give their name a slightly different twist. This is how you own your version of a character that's free to use. I'm currently doing this with The Fox for a Patreon comic. Tweaked the design slightly to suit me, added to the name and I'm inking a mini comic.

search for "public domain superheroes" most book characters from ages ago are now PD such as Peter Pan, wonderland etc but theres lots of unknown ones too. Sometimes a character comes with rules, the original Mary marvel is free to use, but her name has legal ties to both marvel and DC, so you would have to come up with a slightly different name for example
