Sorry I spam in comments too much, but I kinda see what qt means about the night blindness when she explained it (at first I was like HUH) but when there is a bright light near your eye your pupils go smaller to not let too much light in, so the opposite would be qt's pupils don't open enough to let more light in when it's dark in order to see better in the dark (sorry if this doesn't make sense)

I couldn't agree more with the kids topic. I once watched a lady getting out of the car to run in somewhere that should have been a quick in a out, but she first had to take her toddler out of their car seat so she could carry them in with her. I felt so selfish in that moment because I thought " wow, imagine having to ALWAYS grab your little human and take them in wherever youre going". Also the thought of childbirth terrifies me lol so there's that.

In the middle of watching it now: Honestly, I don't personally feel like not wanting kids could be selfish (especially with a reason). I've always thought that it's more selfish to bring a child into the world if anything. I've never wanted kids (just the thought sends me into a panic) but I've thought that it'd be selfish of me to bring a kid into the world when I know that that isn't something that I want or something that I could or would want to allocate that much of my time to. It's doing a disservice to the kid do do it if your heart isn't really in it...Also, the only good thing about Ian is that he has two Great Danes lol

You could do a few things to limit the distribution of your songs but to me it's clearly more rewarding to have a kid that writes to you telling you "I was going through some shit and your music helped", so honestly, just do what you want, there is a limit to what internet steals from you and ultimately I just want you to do whatever makes you happy (and that's how humans should operate in general). Regarding the topic of having children: this is honestly something you need to hotly want to even consider, not something your parents, your culture, your religion or your husband wants. If it's a deal breaker in a relationship, let it be a deal breaker, your relationship and commitment to your children has to come from something else, because you can leave your country, your faith, stray from your family or your lover but you can't do so with your kids

IMO the best test for night blindness is drive. When you're driving at night and there are other cars on the road with their headlights on, can you see the road? Because for me, all I can see is the blinding lights of the headlights and literally nothing else. I cannot register the darkness as anything but dark, so I can't really make out shapes or distance at all.

idk if this perspective would help but it might. I am a transwomen and part of my transition will be losing the ability to have kids. there has always been this desire in the back of my mind to be a parent. and when i realized i would lose that ability i decided to freeze my sperm. it cost over 2k for the appointments and storage for 5 years. i started medically transitioning a month after i gave my last sample. its been 3 months since then and i'm pretty sure i don't produce sperm anymore. i also plan to get an orchiectomy within a year. my time was up so to speak but i was fortunate enough to be able to do it. If in the future i don't want kids i don't have to use it. if i do but i don't want to use it i don't have to. i am a very indecisive and anxious person so i gave future self options. If you want to you can get your eggs frozen and not have to worry about it. adoption is also an option. all of this to say is that your clock is not running out as fast as you think it is and you have options no matter what you do <3

I feel like the internet has made a lot of people feel like they have to be aloof and sarcastic to avoid being mocked that pursuing things in earnest is “cringe” and people who put themselves out there have to worry about the backlash of every little dissection of a genuine expression. My wife is night blind, if we're driving on the highway and there is oncoming traffic she says the headlights from a single car can take up her entire field of view. Even without other cars she can't see the road more than a few feet in front of the car, but her vision is otherwise totally normal

I too grew up religious like QT so i completely understand the two-fold pressure of religion and the patriarchy telling girls that we have to want marriage and kids when we grow up. It’s something I struggled with internally for so long before realizing, hey, I actually don’t want any of this and it’s okay that I feel that way. It’s very refreshing to hear other women talk it out - it can be such an isolating journey! night blindness is for sure a thing. its usually when your eyes are unable to adjust from light to darkness as fast as they should be. makes night driving super dangerous because you sometimes can't see for a few seconds after a car passes with even low headlights on or the reflection off street signs too.

As a 37 year old woman who still doesn't want and has never wanted kids, some people just don't want kids. You're not broken for not wanting them if that's truly how you feel. So much of society tells us that women's only roll is to be a mom, but that has never ever been true. There have always been spinsters, always been the oracles, the aunties, the business women, the politicians, the activists. People think it is selfish to not have kids, but it's worse to have kids when you don't want them or are not prepared to deal with them! Every child deserves to be wanted 100% without regrets. There are professionals who have the same fears that you do, but they’ve found a way to avoid/fix them. I totally understand how you both feel. I'm the same age as Maya and like QT, I'm also terrified of child birth plus have so many worries. I just can't picture myself with kids. However, like Maya I also think about the fact that when I'm older I'll be alone and have no one - additionally I like the idea of continuing my bloodline more than anything. QT is lucky she has siblings as well as many nieces and nephews she can forge a relationship with eventually even if she doesn't have children. I'm an only child so I have no siblings or nieces/nephews and never will. It's very conflicting but I guess I should just live in the moment and not think too far ahead. Nice to hear others have the same concerns as I do.

about the song stuff, you could apply what fuslie has been doing and start using some other name for your music, not give it direct promotion until you have a back catalogue that makes sense as a cumulative work... or you could start GTA RPing. Crazy idea is parodying it a bit and having ludwig in the music videos... using the drama to propel the music forward by him playing the ex in the videos. Btw it is not lame, if you like your music follow through with it and finish it and work it through, music is amazing at working this stuff out. In the end publishing and marketing it is a whole different thing

Not sure if they read the comments but I hope they know that their feelings on kids is super valid. Many women do not want to be mothers but do it because "that's what we are supposed to do". I'm 33 and knew I never wanted kids since I was a teenager and joked about getting a hysterectomy so I can stop having periods and no accidental pregnancies. Well now I just had a hysterotomy for health reasons and thought I might be sad since it's not in my future for good but I feel so great about it as if a weight has been lifted. My bf is also my rock and has been super supportive and made sure I knew that he also does not want children so it's not an issue. But it's true, when you know you know. Us women do not all need to have babies. We don't need to have them to be valid people in this world and I hate that society shames us and calls us selfish for knowing we do not want to be mothers yet childless men never get the same treatment smh.

QT! I think you should absolutely release your music. My advice would be to make a lil post/statement like thingy explaining what the song means to you and why you’re releasing it and outright saying it’s not about anything you’re feeling right now but rather your past experiences- Embrace your inner midnights! Following your passions is so important and I think especially with the support of your loved ones, it would be an incredible idea! Also I loved the conversation you two had about children because I feel like I resonate so well with it. There are other reasons I’m likely not having kids either but I especially identify with Maya prioritizing the work she does right now. I personally want to pursue my dream job and travel a lot and just do things to take care of myself that I personally feel I’d be barred from with having kids. But the conversation about the potential of being alone is one worth having, although I don’t think not having kids makes your life have any less value. (Also I was on a plane when listening to QT talk about her fear of flying so that’s fun.) Great episode you two!

I think it’s pretty fair than 95% of us wouldn’t leak in the first place, because we’re just here for a great podcast between two friends. It’s that last 1-5% that’s just malicious or downright stupid that do the leaks imo

I completely relate to Mayas fear about not having kids! I personally always wanted them at some point but my boyfriend wasn’t sure and asked me why I want them so much - them being cute and every has kids doesn’t count. I told him, firstly I love the idea of a tiny mix between us and love kids in general. But also I’m terrified of dying alone, I have a half-brother but we’re not that close and thaaaats it. My boyfriend is also 7 years older and always jokes he’s not gonna get super old anyway. I basically started crying and told him that’s my second point, I don’t wanna end up alone in the end without more family and possibly outliving him for years.. god I fall into a whole depressive episode everytime I think about dying alone. In the end he got that and is on board now 💕

The topic of whether or not night blindness is real always bothers me because my husband has retinitis pigmentosa and the starting symptom of it are night blindness. Not saying at all that QT has RP. It's just a little bit triggering.

Then it's harder for people to use the song against you because they won't know who it is but the con would be that it's significantly harder to market something without your audience that you have.
