They don't like or normally drink wines. It's possible it has a sour taste which isn't promising for the quality but they could be interpreting the acidity of sauv blanc as sourness.

I'm aussie and I've drank lots of sav blancs from marlborough region before. They're one of the few regions from outside aust that i recognise and love. As roasted said it might be that they don't drink Sav blancs often, or that southern hemisphere sav blancs are different to what they're used to. But usually they're fairly dry
