I love Rougina’s expression here. It’s rare to get a glimpse of her real feelings through the poised façade, and here she’s completely exposed. I especially love that it tells me -absolutely nothing- about her. At first glance it looks like extreme motherly concern, but there’s so much nuance to it. I still can’t guess whether she sees Alice as a loved daughter, as a resource to control and exploit, or as a threat too dangerous to free (or even eliminate). It’s as gripping as it is frustrating. Amazing work.

I think it's added to by the fact that we don't see her face aside from that one panel. We see tight corners around a mouth, implying continued stress, but aside from that moment with what appears to be fear, though we don't know why fully beyond concern for this situation with Alice, we get nothing. No sign of whether the fear/concern continues, or shifts to "duty mode" sorta deal, or frustration/anger... just that one snapshot of emotion. Makes it even more striking a panel, I think
