she isn’t. it was her choice, she said “I believe it is absolutely vital that casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell” in a recent interview because moana is supposed to be 14 and auli’i is in her 20s now.

she might mean more in the appearance sense. I agree with her decision, even though I loved her playing moana, I think someone who can represent their people better should take the live action role

it's not just Hawaii, this was based in "ancient Polynesia" so before all the islands broke off into the ones they are today, the languages used in this are from multiple different Polynesian islands. (also, Moana is the Māori word for Ocean/Sea - native language of New Zealand)

OK so a few facts for this: - Te fiti is supposed to be kind of a goddess of creation?? (I think Disney made her up so idk) - Te fiti became Te ka after maui stole her heart - The island of Te fiti is based on the islands of Tahiti which kind of resemble a woman laying down 💁‍♀️ - The boats are called Canoes (they actually say it several times in the movie) - Polynesian history is amazing, and they were the best "wayfinders" (sailors) ever. Honestly, they could find islands and travel across the ocean without the need for maps and such, simply by using their knowledge of the stars. You're welcome 🤙😂

The 'shiny' song is so good as it's by Jemaine Clement (who also voices the crab), he's one half of Flight of the Conchords who are a NZ comedy band. You should deffo take a look at some of their stuff if you haven't already, their tv series is gold and their songs are incorporated into it. :)
