I think the guy from ep 2 was so sleepy all the time because of the bullying he was put through in his unit. They made him wear a gas mask, waterboarded or hit him in the head whenever he fell asleep because of his loud snoring. All that lead to trauma so he would be awake all night and be exhausted and sleep randomly during the day when he couldn't stay awake.

Just a heads up, there are women in the military. Only men are required to serve, however. Some in Korea have used this as an excuse to platform their prejudice and support in the gender divide. This was more prominent in the past, but still continues to be an issue today.

A few years ago when that Korean movie "Kim Ji-young, Born 1982" based on the popular but controversal feminist novel was made (starring Jung YuMi & Gong Yoo from Train to Busan), I heard what I thought was a crazy statistic - that over 75% of S Korean men between ages 20-30 don't believe women should have equal rights as men (based on an actual poll). Some people hypothesize it is probably because that age range includes the men who have to give up 2 years of their life to do their mandated military service (while women are not required to.)
