Happy New Year!
Since this is the year of the Trilobite, I figured this was a good opportunity to share a few of them. I realized I never actually posted Tril's sprite on Patreon! Only on Discord. The shop trilobite and the storage trilobite are also here, and then there's the BIG GUY. His name is Eneiel, and he accompanies Liv, the deep sea Voleian ^^
I did some good progress this month, but sadly I wasn't able to fully finish all the cutscenes. Turns out the ones I thought would be hard to make are HARD to make, with a lot of very specific events and objects that require special attention, or often needing to design a whole room for one cutscene, because what happens in it is dependant on what the room it occurs in looks like. I also updated the cutscene system some more here and there. The result is absolutely worth it though, and I was happy to see some people I showed the cutscene to enjoy them and actually get into the story, laugh at the jokes, etc! It actually took about 2 hours to get through the cutscenes, which surprised me!
I'm currently about halfway through a set of cutscenes, and I only have one left after that (the most complex one for sure, which is also the one I expect will leave the biggest impact).
As usual I wish I could work faster, but while I was getting depressed about being too slow, I came up with a few ideas:
This is actually something I mentioned a while back, before I decided on a separate release with the Patreon version first followed by the public one later. I thought I'd leave some of the features to be included up to a vote, but considering that would be many's first impression of the game, leaving stuff unfinished and patching it up later felt kinda wrong. Now that I know there will be a Patreon version first though, I think it makes a lot of sense to let you decide between quality or faster release!
I'll think about it more between now and the next devlog, but I'm going to have various polls to let you decide which features you'd like to be in the game right away (= longer dev time), and which ones you're fine with being added later (= faster release). Of course, it's only going to be stuff that I'm personally fine with either way.
For example, item descriptions: yes or no. Stuff like that!
Another idea would be how many duplicate rooms should there be? None, few, some, a lot. Obviously, none means I'll have to take more time to make each room (though some will end up looking kinda similar in some cases, like in the ocean), while having a lot of duplicates means I can just slap the same code in a bunch of scripts to get the same room in various places when they aren't too relevant, meaning I can release the Patreon version earlier and update these rooms later, at the cost of exploration being less interesting in that version.
As always there's still work to be done, but I'm close enough that I can do this without second guessing it.
I think this will be a great way to both give you some control, and for me to get rid of some of the stress that's been building up for a while now.
So yeah! Feel free to tell me what you think, but I'll probably make this special poll happen sooner rather than later. If not in February, then in March!
The next NPC poll has begun! You can now vote for the monstergirl you want to be included in BE Witches in the Discord if you are a 2$+ patron!
The poll will be active until January 15th. A second NPC poll will begin on January 16th.
Also, now is a good time to submit a monstergirl and/or modifiers if you haven't already as a patron! If you can't think of anything to submit, here is a list of ideas you can choose from.
