They didn't die because they figured out once you make a copy of the movie and show it to someone else, you survive. Samara's goal is to spread the curse as much as she possibly can. That's why at the end of the first film it finished with her having Aiden make a copy of. So within the time between the first and second film, Aiden most likely showed it to someone else and they died.
