5e's got a real shortage of celestials, especially gameable ones at low-mid levels.

The lantern archon is there to guide your players where they need to go, particularly in the upper planes, though these guys can pop up wherever they're needed. They're like a nice will-o-wisp.

The hound archon is a golden retriever who is also a paladin. What's not to like?
