Poster Size Change (Patreon)

I'm going to be changing the poster size sent with the 24$ tier from 11x17 to 11x14. This change will start for the month of March and affect the packages going out this month as February was an international shipping month.

Shipping cost hell

It's no surprise that shipping has gotten increasingly expensive over these past few years. The average cost for me to ship a domestic Patreon parcel is about $8 after packaging, protection, and postage are accounted for. This comes to about $5 for shipping and $3 for other random associated costs. In contrast, sending a 11x14 letter is about 50 cents for shipping and 1$ for protecting the parcel. 

While I try to not let cost dictate the quality of the merchandise I put out, switching to 11x14 prints would reduce this cost by almost 75%. The margins as an artist are already pretty small, and getting a bit more breathing room always helps. It makes me more able to invest money into my craft, rather than having to dump away a couple hundred every month on shipping.

What does this mean for me?

In exchange for lowering the size, my intent is to be able to use the time and money saved from easier shipping to increase the rate that the sticker reward is a sheet, and to have more overall time for the art I make, ideally leading to more art. Earlier in my Patreon tenure, I would send linocuts and small merchandise as the monthly reward, and I would love to get back to there.

11x17 is a big size, and the overhead and time that goes into making sure the posters I send out are up to standard are significant. Reducing the size means less planning and time needed, leading to more cool art and more time to spend on different things like merch, stickers, and engaging with you all.

Additionally, while I haven't publicly talked about it, I was able to source some significantly higher quality paper than what I was using before. Being able to reduce the shipping cost means I can afford to put the costs elsewhere in cooler ways.

I know there are some new poster tier Patrons this month, I'm going to send out a few extra stickers with your package since you pledged with the assumption of receiving a 11x17 size poster.

I would love to get feedback from all of you, so please let me know how you feel about this change in the comments. I'm not currently intending on changing the price but I will monitor it and potentially adjust it if there's a need.
