Hello everyone!

Happy new year! I hope this year is full of wonderful moments, during your games and in life in general! It’s been a crappy few months for me recently, not feeling well mentally and then at the beginning of December KTech and I both came down with Covid (Thankfully very mild symptoms). But I’ve bounced back now and I’ve been working on new content, figuring things out and doing a bunch of organizing and planning! As this new year rolls around, it brings some changes to my artwork and content that I’m going to chat about briefly in this post, all good things don’t worry ;)

I’m pretty happy with how things are going overall in regards to my work, I think the tokens we make are awesome and I want to make plenty more this year. The assets are also top-notch and I love the balance of weirder stuff combined with everyday assets that you need all the time for games.

With that being said the only criticism of my work has been that the assets and tokens are too small or too low res for games. I’ve always pushed back against this but I thought about it and decided that the only effect of making the tokens and assets a bit higher resolution would be that they take a bit more time to make. Since the vast majority of my patrons seem to be pretty happy to wait for releases the overwhelmingly positive effect of tokens and assets looking better overall with more detail means starting this year, new content will be a bit bigger!

The actual numbers that everything increases by won’t be too drastic, as I want things to match together but to show what I mean (and bear in mind this might not be super obvious to everyone) below is the Feywild Creatures pack from last year that I really wanted to have finished by now but it will be the last pack that I make with the older scale for tokens. The grid size for these is 150px and that’s been the size for tokens for a few years now.

Below however is something I was working on when I decided to change the grid size and resolution. There are two textures here, the first one is from the older 110px grid I used to use for assets and is 440px by 440px as a texture. The second one uses the new 150px grid and is 600px by 600px. You might be thinking that 40 extra px for each square doesn’t seem like much but visually I think there is a vast difference and it gives me a ton of extra room to add detail without giving myself too much extra work!

The display image for this post for the new deadly dungeons assets also uses the new 150px grid and ho boy, the amount of extra detail I was able to add with the line art alone was amazing. Small coins, gems, cracks and extras are all so much easier to draw and I haven’t even started to colour them yet!

Finally, KTech has been working on a new set of tokens to show off the new scale and some of you might recognise where these tokens are from! I’m calling them Froststorm creatures for copyright reasons ;)

The old scale for tokens was a 150px grid, just like the assets we are increasing that by 50px and it will now be a 200px grid for all of our tokens going forwards. This will be especially noticeable on faces, tiny and small tokens and fine details in the future and will give us both the room to make interesting and unique creatures that previously we would have been limited on in terms of size. Massive creatures probably won’t seem that different and that’s perfect as it means you can still use many of our old tokens. Though of course, this change does mean that in the future we WILL be going back and redoing old tokens packs. CR1/8th, one of our first packs looks pretty bad in compassion to our new content but we will get there eventually! :)

That’s it for now all hopefully this look at upcoming content is exciting, there are of course other things in the works right now behind the scenes and I’ll be revealing more when they are ready!

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone! <3
