Monthly Update: September 2019

This is the first of hopefully many monthly updates on my patreon and these posts will cover the progress of maps, assets, tokens and everything else I’ve been working on and the things still to come!

The Past Month

Region Maps

Two pretty custom and detailed region maps were finished last month, these were the map of Yumleia for the wonderful James Haeck and then the map of Avernus to go along with the release of the latest adventure by Wizards of the coast and to be used for our live stream run by Guy Sclanders on the DnD Twitch channel!

These maps ultimately took a great deal of my time but were well worth it and I can really see from studying them afterwards that my style of mapking is coming together more and more!

Battlemaps

The Sacred Grove was the only battle map released this month, other projects of course delayed production on things but this map was very very successful and if I continue to make maps in that kind of quality I will be extremely happy! :D

Assets

Two assets packs were released this month, the forest assets and the camp assets, these were in the works for some time but making sure everything is consistent and the assets themselves actually work together is quite time consuming. That being said I think I now have a good system going and I will be creating a TON of assets in the future. But more on that later ;)

Videos

My first little foray into making tutorial videos launched this month and so far I’ve received very positive feedback. The videos themselves went over some simple steps to create your own battle maps using the assets that I’ve produced recently and while short, set the stage for more videos in the future :)

Mapmaking with Assets Series

Critical Role

In unbelievably exciting news for myself personally… I will be making a post in a few days to talk about the Critical role map that was fully unveiled recently! In fact the map itself can be seen in a low res on their online store, where you can buy a game mat of the map!

I’m so blown away by the amount of love I’ve gotten from Critical Role, they have been not only amazing to work with but have been really happy to give me shout-outs and promote the map which gives me such a happy feeling XD

I would love to make a video of the map and the creation of it, as it really encapsulates many of my ideas about techniques for making world maps including some really unique biomes and locations. But we shall see ;)

Discord

Project Deios

Production on Project Deios for me at least has not started yet but some exciting things have been happening in that department.. The voting is close enough to done that I’m now sure of what I’ll be drawing, which is of course very nice to know, and the results were shared on a stream! I won't list them here as there's always a chance there might be changes but I doubt it at this stage. Instead if you want to know anything about Deios, come and ask me on the Discord!

Next Month Plans

There are a ton of cool things in the pipeline next month!

First up, another asset pack will be coming out soon to add another element to the forest and camp assets..

SPOILERS If you like the idea of large scale battles in tabletop RPGs your going to like this pack ;)

In a surprising twist I will be streaming again starting tomorrow for one scheduled day a week. This stream is going to be only scheduled stream right now so that I can stick to it and will mainly focus on drawing and chatting to anyone that wants to come and say hi and show off what I’m working on at the time!

Tuesdays at 8pm BST is the new time for the streams on twitch!

In other media news, I have plans for more videos this month with higher production values. This is still being worked on so I wont say much about this but next month should see the start of a new series.

The theme of next month is going to be spooky.. I have maps and assets being worked on right now on a genre and theme that is very underrepresented by mapmakers and I think it's going to be mind blowing ;)

Lastly I want to say a huge thank you to all of my patrons, I have not made a post about this, but I have been on patreon now for two years last month! And month after month I’m still surprised and honoured to have so many wonderful people supporting me and it's truly the most amazing thing in the world.

I love you all very much, have a great day and happening mapmaking! :D
