I wanted to do this myself, but it seems like I am getting this one for free: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/solder-fume-extractors/7645726/

So I am just going to leave the idea here for now.

I found myself not using my freely standing fume extractor as much as I should, because 'ah what the hell, just a quick solder joint, not gonna set up anything complicated for that'. So I need a permanently installed solution, that automatically turns on when I use the soldering iron. My idea was to get an affordable (in comparison to that professional RS Online extractor at least) Xiaomi air purifier for which various grades of filters exist. I'd reverse the fan so that it sucks in air through the top and attach a 3D printed adapter to some ESD safe LOC-LINE Flexi 75

I'd turn it on along with the soldering station using a 'master slave switch' so that it takes no extra effort.

That’s a great idea! This could also be a suitable fume extractor for a small laser engraver 😬

and iirc there is no scientific evidence that flux fumes are actually long-term harmful. There's 'fume fever', a 48 hour flu-like illness and rare cases of pneumonia which is why I want a proper extraction thingy

I used a philips air purifier that used electrostatic filtration as a fume extractor once and I heard it arc over when it sucked in the fumes.

Good idea. These solder stations with all the different soldering tools might as well include an air purifier too.
