The plan for season two originally was for the Anointed One to stick around longer as a primary threat, but they changed their mind while writing this episode. Problem #1 was that the actor playing him was growing FAST, so they couldn't keep up the "He's an unageing vampire" shtick (This is why he's sitting down in every scene with another actor, because otherwise it'd be obvious that he was much taller than he was last season). Problem #2 was that he just wasn't very interesting. So when they brought in Spike for what was supposed to be a one-episode guest spot, they decided to chuck out their prior plan and go with the fun new direction.

BEST Boy has arrived. The fact that Spike sauntered in and just deleted the anointed one, this character that had been built up as this huge threat and did it so disrespectful was amazing. Also now you get to see the glory that is Drusilla <3
