blow the horn.. play the fife.. beat the drums so slowly... Officers are not allowed to be friends with enlisted men cuz they'll feel bad when they have to send them out on suicide missions (this still holds true!). Shaw was a lieutenant turned colonel (skipping at least 3 ranks), so he was inexperienced and made a lot of mistakes, and was also operating under old ass shitty military doctrine :( plus there is no nice way to get humans to organize themselves to kill each other.. it's definitively not a perfect system, but no perfect system has people killing each other lol! but i digress... he was a true believer, and I'm not even sure if that is a good thing anymore (or if it ever was, in all reality). I too romanticize the cavalry charge, so you know I'm biased. I still dig the hell out of this movie. They played it a lot in schools back in the day of the wheelie tv/vcr cart, so I think it formed a sort of a shared experience for people my age.. Thanks for giving this old war horse a whirl! But I'm glad it was on the pay tier!
