Creature Bio: Concubus (Patreon)

Concubi are a broad category of demonfolk renowned for their eroticism and fantastical prowess with magic. This species of shapeshifters is remarkably sex-positive and overwhelmingly queer overall. While many believe it is a Concubus’ “duty” to seduce others, this is outright false.
While ‘Succubus’ and ‘Incubus’ are more well-known terms than ‘Concubus’, Succubi and Incubi are, in fact, subsets of Concubi. While ‘Concubi’ is used as the gender-nonspecific term to describe a group of Succubi and Incubi, it is also used to describe individual Concubi who do not label themselves as either ‘Succubus’ or ‘Incubus’. Succubi are most commonly women, Incubi are most commonly men, and Concubi who fit neither of the above are most commonly non-binary - but that is a trend, not a rule: as is the case with any gendered term or label, individuals may call themselves whatever they please.
Just as with queer people of any species, Concubi are subjected to compulsory heterosexuality by (mostly non-Concubi) allocishets the world over. Contrary to the desires of many allocishets, Succubi do not exclusively have sex with men and Incubi do not exclusively have sex with women. As is the case with people of any species, Concubi can come in any gender, any sexuality, and any romantic orientation. That being said, Concubi are statistically more likely to have fluid and/or non-conforming experiences of gender and sexuality than most other species. It is quite common for Concubi - even those of a binary gender - to shake up their gender presentations and physical bodies for their own enjoyment.
The original, or ‘default’ appearance of Concubi can be quite diverse, but all are humanoid. They can have horns on their head in almost any size, shape, or quantity. Their skin colour can range from the same variety as humans to other colours such as blue and green. Concubi have thin tails they control with precise motor function. Their tails can be tipped in a seemingly unlimited variety of shapes. The most famous type is a spaded tail, but other common shapes include diamonds, clubs, and hearts. Other observed tail shapes include a circle, a triangle, a five-point star, a maple leaf, and even a snowflake.
Arguably, their most striking body feature is their wings. Concubi wings are bat-like in appearance and average roughly four meters in wingspan, though size and shape varies from individual to individual. But most remarkably, Concubi can use their wings to form portals to anywhere in spacetime, and even to other dimensions entirely. An overwhelming consensus of direct accounts from Concubi claim that each Concubus has their own personal dimension that only they can connect to. It is believed that they cannot create life in their dimension, but they can, however, comfortably house living beings inside them indefinitely if they let them in. Matter from inside their dimension can be transferred to another via the portals in their wings. Theories posit that Concubi are themselves this dimension, and that their physical bodies are merely conduits they use to interact with other people and places, but this is purely speculative. Assuming this theory is correct, this implies that a Concubus who gifts things to someone from the matter in their dimension is literally, tangibly giving a part of themself away.
Concubi are one of the most enigmatic species of magical monsterfolk. The parameters surrounding the use of their magic seems to differ depending on the individual Concubus using it. Hundreds of contradictory first-hand accounts from Concubi are on record, and it is highly difficult to determine fact from falsehood. It is even difficult to determine if a Concubus is being truthful - or at least, if they themselves believe they are being truthful. What magical limitations do Concubi have? Do all Concubi share the same limitations or does it vary from individual to individual? Concubi themselves may not even have the answers to these questions. However, confirmed recorded magical abilities Concubi have been observed using include: shapeshifting into both living and inanimate objects; transforming others into living and inanimate objects; transforming inanimate objects into radically different inanimate objects; merging living beings together and separating them again; flight; telekinesis; near-instantaneous teleportation of inanimate objects, other living beings, and themselves; alchemy; hypnosis and mental rewriting; and of course, using their wings as portals to other dimensions. Though likely mere boasts or lies, few first-hand accounts from Concubi have listed even more extraordinary feats they can perform: communicating with or raising the dead; warping the fabric of spacetime - including time travel and rewriting the past; and even creating entirely new universes. While Concubi can clearly use magic whenever they please, they predominantly use magic in trades, as gifts, or when someone makes a wish. All Concubi who have gone on record about the subject state that making others feel good makes them feel good.
Concubi seemingly do not need to consume sustenance, but they are not immortal. Though their ages cannot be determined beyond doubt, it is clear that they have extraordinarily long lifetimes when compared to most other life forms. The eldest Concubus - if their testimony is to be believed - is over twenty-three billion years old. While this Concubus acknowledges that this figure is older than the age of the universe, they argue that they have the ability to time travel, lending this seemingly contradictory claim a sliver of viability. Outliers aside, it is widely reported that Concubi can live for millions of years. As is the case for any life form, it is uncertain what happens to Concubi after death.
Though there is much more to them than lust and sex, many Concubi adore physical and emotional intimacy, love, and self-pleasure. As stated prior, though, there exist Concubi who fall on the aromantic and asexual spectrums arospec and aspec Concubi are not a contradiction, nor are they flawed. Polyamory is abundant and virtually universally celebrated - let alone accepted - among Concubi. Most Concubi have at least a few fetishes, the most common of which include: rubber/latex; hypnosis/mind alteration; inanimate transformation; gender transformation; and absorption/merging. Concubi have the ability to emit pheromones that act as a strong aphrodisiac, which is largely where their reputation as seducers originates. However, it has been stated by Concubi and affirmed by extensive observation that they almost exclusively use their powers on people when they explicitly desire their services: as mentioned prior, Concubi gain a deep and rewarding satisfaction by making others feel good with their powers, be it sexually or otherwise. Concubi supposedly have sixth and seventh senses: a sense that allows them to detect when a person has desires they can assist with and a sense for what fetishes, sexual orientations, and sexual preferences an individual has. They can use their sixth sense to determine when a person desires romantic and sexual activity, then use their seventh sense to determine what they would most enjoy. For example, if they sense a transgender person who is attracted to chubby women and who has a latex fetish, they may appear before them as a chubby woman wearing latex and offer to give them the body of their dreams… among other things, should the person so desire.
A significant portion of Concubi live out the majority of their lives disguised as other beings, be it human or other kinds of monsterfolk. Taking on different identities over the course of their lives has recordedly been described as immensely “freeing, fresh, and fun”.
