Ogata is just a general car mechanic , okuyama specializes in tuning and modification so he is needed in his specialty while ogata maintains and fixes the car inbetween races/laps , it would be cool if ogata does learn all aspects of racing mechanics but he is still essential to the show , not just someone who gives the car to Kanata

Hey Jay, I know this is late, but the reason why Beckenbauer waited to pass his time in qualifying was because he wanted him to be his 'pacemaker' basically letting you follow someone's line and then decided to move ahead by the end of the lap. Honestly it's pretty unrealistic for racers to do this in real-life qualifying cause you can't project a hologram of the driver in front of you being a 'pacemaker.' Beckenbauer probably just visualized it in this case.
