It's time for me to cry my eyes out watching this episode again. If anyone needs me I'll be lying in bed with a box of tissues... As always thank you for the reactions Marko, wishing you and all the HxH bros a merry Christmas.

We're here... Was trying hard not to tear up, but your reactions broke me! I actually felt so bad when Youpi died his body just laying there, my favorite royal guard! And the Meruems and Komugis send off gave me errie Romeo and Juliet vibes. This arc perfectly encapsulates sadness, life, death, and love all at the same time it's insane, that's why we dont know how to feel at the end because our emotions are at their limit, definitely a bittersweet ending if i must say, Togashi is just on another level and I'm glad I'm a passenger in your crazy ride watching Hxh and the other shows! Thanks Marko!

My theory at the end, is that the poison caused meruem to go blind, which is why he kept asking if she was there still. So damn sad...

No matter how many times i rewatch ep 135 i still shed tears

Prodigy

now compare that arc to greed island marko^^

Now that you've seen the Welfin and Ikalgo exchange go back to the pre-intro scene of episode 80, theres a tremendously sneaky easter egg waiting for you

Ayy LFG

When I first saw this I did the mistake of watching this episode right before a had work as a server, that night the whole time I was working I couldn’t focus on anything and was trying to hold tears back 🥲

One of the most well written masterpiece in my opinion. Chimera Ant arc was a beautiful and depressing story. It was at this moment when I realized that Meruem is the main character of this arc. We saw how he was first born as a godly monstrosity ready to rule the world, to becoming a human that chose to spend his last moments with Komugi. Meruem was the complete opposite parralel of Gon. Gon started off full of hope and humanity that slowly succumbed into becoming a monster to achieve his goal and avenge Kite.

It hasn't been said yet but in the manga the significance of Komugis move, Kokoriko, is basically the same strategy that the hunters all used on the King. I can't remember exactly but it involves separating the General or King piece from his guards. Allowing an easier win, when Komugi used the move and Meruem played the response that she had realized in a previous episode she instantly saw a way to beat it through her nen so when she used the new move it was like she was saying that the plan had failed. But then Meruem reversed her move showing that he had been poisoned and was destined to lose. But then Komugi reverses his reversal and stays with him in the end. It's just one thing that the anime doesn't explain much and it's pretty in depth so it makes sense. Also its so wierd how they just randomly show that the Diego that dies was a fake and the real one has been retired for 30 years. It's like wtf? 🤣 So random.

That's crazy, I just saw it, at the very start of the episode, they were on the screen. :D Thanks for sharing that man.

Bro, I didn't realise that their games were so deep and had these hidden meanings, that's awesome. I also thought that Diego scene was surprising, like why the heck is that even relevant xD The only thing that comes to mind is perhaps a similarity to Meruem maybe, they both like gave up on their power and found happines in simple things idk tho. :D

Jacob

Damn I never thought about Diego like that. That actually does make sense! Lol i'm glad you enjoyed this arc so much man. Now we're in the (anime) end game! Haha

I told u "keep an eye to Welfin" refering to that moment: "Komugi?" Just with one word he became an mvp RIP Komugi and Meruem (even though all the people and kids he's eaten, and all bad stuff he has done) I think Chimera Ant arc is the best concluding arc I've seen

Premare

This was truly one of the best arcs ever, Meruems development from terrifying ant king to a kind and humanoid being is something very special. It also reflects on the malicious side of humanity, showing the equally terrible things that have been done by mankind. I really enjoyed rewatching this arc with you, thanks for that Marko :)

Few days late, but funfact: At the very end it was the first time Komugi has touched/scanned Meruem's face so in the end she could probably identify he's not human, but that obviously didn't matter to her at all in that moment

Speedwagon

"One of the best episodes i've EVER seen...". I'm pretty sure that's at least the 3rd time you've said that in this arc! xD And it's been true every time. Don't get me wrong, there a lot of anime and manga that manage to cook up incredibly intense or sad moments. But the way Togashi sends the reader/viewer through a roller coaster of emotions, with moments that got you stressed, conflicted and impressed like no other and having it all end in way that makes you cry for the villain, is simply unmatched. If there's one arc that deserves to be called the peak of all shonen anime - then this must be it.

IMO this episode is the essence of art. This is the PRIME and utmost absolute example of what is art. The denouement of the Chimera Ant Arc manages to capture and expose what it means to be human, what's the essence of being a human being, it draws the perfect outline of human society, and evinces all the moral, ethic and societal dilemmas it goes through... All this while presenting us with the story of two fictional characters that are able to become the final and most perfect example of what's the definition of LOVE in all of it's purity. What they did in this show is simply unbelievable. And I'm not even praising all the other TECHNICAL aspects of the show yet, those are a whole other type of art on their own.

markosanimejourney

Very well said man! I still after almost a week think about this episode daily, it's crazy how much it impacted me, one of my favourite episodes of any show, truly peak.
