Oda is a genius, so many different inspirations in this arc. Neptune's appearance is almost the same as King Triton, and Shyarly has some similarities to Ursula, the Witch. All from Disney's Little Mermaid. Hody Jones' name is most likely based on Davy Jones (famous pirate), if you have seen the pirates of the caribbean then you know him xD Shyarly's character is also inspired by the Japanese Legend (Yokai) called Amabie. A half human half sea creature that could tell prophesies. Ryugo Palace is inspired by a Japanese fairy tale called Urashima Taro where Taro saved a sea turtle that led him to the palace and then he was granted permission to spend time with the princess. Except here Luffy found her on his own lol I love finding out about Oda's inspirations for characters or places. It's amazing.
