The winter shogun scene near the beginning was from another anime called Konosuba. Konosuba is another great isekai and the authors of Re:zero and Konsuba are good friends.

You needed this OVA after all that suffering. Btw you are right about Subaru´s ringtone it is the same from before White Whale fight it is midi version of Dog of Flanders (1975) anime opening .

Al’s full name is Aldebaran after a star. I didn’t think before that both him and Subaru having star/constellation names could be a connection, that’s really interesting to think about A lot of references in this episode I didn’t notice before like snowman Subaru’s head falling off 💀. Also some foreshadowing for things still to come that I noticed this time

If you haven't seen it before, the Sapporo Snow Festival in Hokkaido is amazing. They did a great job in the anime illustrating it! This was a nice episode for sure! Lots of funny moments.
