Great reaction and discussion. I love the ending scene, the dialogue, voice acting and execution of the scene, it´s one of my favorite scenes of S1 even though it is hard to watch. Emilia should introduce her self as Subaru´s babysitter. She reasonably treated him like a baby until that ending scene. Subaru is a bit selfish thinking he knows what is best for others without even asking them.

Oh man, what a fantastic episode. Subaru made an absolute clown of himself. I have a few thoughts about this. First of all, you said that Emilia and Subaru's conversation felt very real and human. This is my thoughts as well for a lot of Re:Zero's long dialogues. Somehow it feels more "raw" than dialogue in other shows. Like it's less filtered for the purpose of storytelling and you are just seeing totally genuine emotions spilling out that connects with out real world experiences as viewers. I would personally challenge the idea that Subaru had Emilia's best interest in mind doing what he did--I think it's the opposite, and Emilia saw right through it. "It was for you, wasn't it?" He admitted it himself; Emilia gave him a chance to explain, and all he said was that his ego was crushed. That's the reason he gave as to why he went against her wishes and ruined her reputation. If he was really thinking about her, he would trust her and let her handle herself (as we saw she is clearly capable of). What Subaru needs to learn first and foremost is the difference between loving someone, and loving the idea of that person. Think about it, what does he *actually* know about Emilia? He doesn't know her history, her fears, her goals, her wants, or anything that makes her an actual person. He just decided to insert himself into her affairs without actually getting to know who she really is. Again, Emila had the insight to see this too: "The version of me that lives inside you must really be amazing. She can understand everything, she can feel all your pain as her own..." She recognized that he has completely unrealistic expectations of her and the person he thinks she is just in his imagination. She is more of a person than just a nice pretty girl who helped him, and he needs to recognize that. Like you, I am looking forward to seeing how he moves on from here...

Glad you enjoyed! It was indeed such a great episode and I'm so happy that author is making sure to write his characters so realistically, that scene was amazing and it's gonna be interesting following what Subaru does next.

Btw there is a new opening in the next episode. It is only very little spoilery by showing characters I guess, and it has original footage not used in anime. So it is up to you.

Very well said as always man, thanks for the comment! He doesn't really know much about Emilia and he is inserting himself into such an important meeting that's literally deciding the fate of the whole kingdom while also doing harm to Emilia with his shenanigans. He definitely needs to learn more about her and I guess stop treating this world like the fantasy games that he used to play and I think this episode is going to help him start making those important changes.

You can watch from ep. 19. Endings are fine, the ending song was played during Subaru-Emilia ending scene this episode. It is sung by Emilia´s VA.

Yeah, Julius is a great man. He basically saved Subaru by giving a "little" beating
