All throughout the show so far the fights have been.. mediocre, from an animation standpoint. I think they did this on purpose just so they could put more emphasis on THIS fight. It was like when episode 35-36 were up for animation at the studio the head guy was like, "Ok, time to show them what we REALLY can do!" Lol. That fight is in my top 5 fights for anime. (which is probably biased because I love Hunter x Hunter so much but oh well, lol.) There's no crazy anime stuff really happening but it's the hype behind it that just elevates it. It's too much. For me, it's strange because, at this point in the anime, I didn't really take Gon as a serious fighter. I knew his potential was insanely high but he hadn't shown anything like this episode yet. But like you noticed before the match and during the entrances Gon has a lot of fans and the people really DO take him as a serious fighter. One thing that's never talked about, which I understand because why would you really, is how hype the announcer is. One of my favorite lines she says is when Gon does his signature stone flip and she's like, "There it is! Gon's Stone Flip!" That whole sequence from the music, to the announcer, to the crowd, to Gon yelling before he destroys that stone floor tile, to the music amping up as soon as he kicks it.. omg when I first watched that I was so fucking hype. One of the best things they did in that episode is making it feel like a real fight. It's almost like you're in the audience watching. The choice to use no sound after Gon punches Hisoka was so perfect. It's like everyone in the audience was in complete shock. So good. Last thing I want to mention is one of my favorite episodes, episode 37 where Gon goes back to visit Mito. It's one of the most wholesome episodes I've ever seen. I know I say "I've ever seen" a lot when I refer to stuff from Hunter x Hunter but this anime, to me, really is one of the best out there. I was like you, I was SOO excited for Gon to return home, but I was especially excited for Killua to be able to meet Mito and experience a true family environment. And the way she just accepted Killua so fast.. Beautiful. But the main reason this is one of my favorite episodes from the anime is because of the conversation they had while looking up at the stars. It, to me, is the moment they solidified their friendship. The first time they let their true feelings out about each other and god was it so wholesome. It always gives me happy tears. I mentioned before but this anime, once again to me, is the BEST when it comes to portraying friendships. In my opinion, Gon and Killua's friendship is #1 in the world of anime. I love these two characters. And don't even get me started on Mito hearing their whole conversation.. :')

The fight was absolutely amazing surprise! I expected their fight to be entertaining, but as you said, the announcer, the silence after the punch, the intense exchange, the way they animated it and fighting choreography, it was all perfect! Gon's and Killua's friendship is so wholesome. They really get alon together and I like how Hisoka pointed out that Transmuters and Enhancers would usually get along, it's so true! xD There's more to that ofc. Gon grew up on isolated island so he is very pure and innocent, still learning about world and was not judgemental at all when Killua told him about his family. It's perfect that these two met each other! Now we saw Killua helping Gon train and introducing him to Heavens Arena and finally they had heartfelt conversation that showed how much they mean to each other! :)

Hisoka vs Gon is up there in my top fights of all time, i take slow meticulous and strategic fights over super colorful CGI effects asspull plot armor ones any day

EZ

Yeah buddy you don't know what "mediocre" means especially in terms of animation, you want mediocre go look at Dragonball Super, 7 Deadly Sins Season 3.

Gon vs Hisoka was awesome! Cant wait for the next episodes. It's my favourite arc!

I dont comment often but i just wanted to see i absolutely love your reactions and i cant wait for you to watch the rest of this show, theres so many incredible things coming soon

Huh? This is the first fight they actually went through the effort of choreographing and they went ham on the animation. Not sure what you mean unless you can provide me an example of a fight before this that was on this level.

EZ

I'm not saying the previous fights were on this level but saying they were "mediocre" from an ANIMATION standpoint is just brain-numbly wrong, previous fights were animated great with no reused shots, bad frames, or anything that would label it mediocre, obviously they we're as "dramatic" as Gon vs Hisoka because well it's the most hype confrontation of the show so far. Like I said before you want mediocre go look at Dragonball Super, every fight in that show was mediocre despite the times they had good animators on board.
