After people asking for YEARS for me to cover this, I figured hey, why not now! I'd actually never played this before, so I was really curious what all the hubbub was about.

Since you're reviewing games people have been asking about... Maybe you should review CyClones... Haha 😁

I grew up with this game and I frequently blame it for my current taste in strange games XD

I played this at the children's museum in Indy when I was younger I still have the disc. It needs to be installed in the packard bell I just scored.

I'd play this. Shame the engine sucks for this, but still.

"Maybe it's not the best game of 97", led my brain to, "Clint should really make an epic series reviewing his best game of every year", In chronological order please. Should be easy, yeah? Haha

LazyGameReviews

Well, I did do that series of video a few years back covering my best PC games of each decade, so there's that :)

If you didn't like the racing, try Lego Racer. It's still quite fun.

"Papa told Mama... Laura told Nick... You can move a mountain, if you do it Brick by Brick" Ah, dat soundtrack. 8)

This was my first 3D game, i pretty much ran it on an cyrix 300 mmx *i think, well that computer still exists in my family so i could check* under windows 95. i remember the rumours back then too about things like you could unlock further games by having the highest scores on all characters and all mini-games, that didn't turn out to be true however.

The best thing in the game looks to me to be the cat on the Lego person's head. Or is it a hat? Nevermind, I don't want to know.

There is a PC game Version of Lego Island? I have only ever played the Game Boy version which also looks much better than the PC game

Even at release this was so out of my age group it's not funny. That being said, there's charm there alright - in a slightly absurd way. Just a shame that there's so few mini-games in the overall package.

Anonymous

Oddly enough, I don't think I played most of the mini games in this as a kid. I just liked wandering around aimlessly and occasionally delivering some pizzas.

Anonymous

my first Lego game was Lego Racer.

Anonymous

First lego games: Lego Rock Raider and Lego Racer for the N64 which stored saves into my memory card... IF I HAD ONE!!!!

Anonymous

But really tho, Rock Raider was a bit difficult and my PC at home couldn't really run it, but I loved the animation and models.

Wait what...you are not wearing pants in your videos. Thats disturbing :-)

LazyGameReviews

Heh, yeah I wish that was the case! Could definitely use a lot more variety in the side activities

LazyGameReviews

There is no Game Boy version of Lego Island, the PC one is the only one there is! Now, there's a GBC and GBA version of Lego Island 2, but that's a different game entirely from years later :)

Your main widows 98 rig is the same as mine :). I originally played this on my pentium mmx

Hi Clint, Not sure if you read comments about these old video's anymore; but I'm gonna give it a try. If you are interested in reliving Lego Island as it was supposed to be, and even working well on modern hardware, you should check out this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CmqbccCqI0 In this video, MattKC figured out the mechanics of the game that decides the moving & turning speed; and he even created a tool to fix these for your own install. Just a suggestion; do with it as you see fit sir. I'm patiently waiting for another retro build by the way :P Kind regards, Roel
