Great video. Well done on the jumpers.

like a man with no arms, its hard to get a jumper on

Good stuff, well done my friend! In these days when all the cache is a part of the CPU itself, and the L2 cache is measured in megabytes, it's easy for us to all forget how things used to be in this regard, and what a difference it can make.

Oh man...these jumpers. I remember lots of frustration there. Especially when the the little suckers drop somewhere in the case behind something else :-)

In addition to really enjoying these latest videos of yours, I have been thrilled with the response from various communities across the net (forums, Facebook groups, etc) that are looking to build a 486 or other vintage system for the first time. I love helping those guys out - especially those younger guys that are struggling a bit to wrap their minds around jumpers vs BIOS settings. "Let's talk about IRQs, my friend." Meanwhile, a woodgrain front with black vents and silver trim along the straight lines would give it a Sony Trinitron feel. Technically a design prior to the time of the 486, but still good stuff...

Dude, I really know how you felt putting those jumpers in. Had to do this stuff back in the day and it always drove me nuts! So relatable, that's why I love your channel!

I remember originally thinking that RAM (L2 cache or otherwise) is the one thing I wouldn't intentionally skimp on simply because it won't make your games go too fast, but the lack of it can make your games go too slow or not at all. That, and I wouldn't want to use a 2x CD-ROM unless it was the only option. Again, those just made loading speeds longer, but didn't make things run too fast. Unless you're going for that level of authenticity, of course!

I finally caught up with your 486 videos, yay! Very relaxing and entertaining to watch (and educational!)... even if your computer reminds me of an old-school humidifier. :P But you know what, you're truly bringing retro back with that sweet woodgrain look on your computer case. :D (And totally off-topic, I like your green shirt... I think I have the same color but in a v-neck, haha) Are there going to be any more updates to this computer? It seems like you're reaching your ideal 90s computer already!
