Three weird mice! See how they run!

https://youtu.be/10M3tlTgVTI

Christmas is over! And I find myself at the editing desk once again. It's been a nice two-ish weeks off from working on LGR videos, and I'm easing my body and mind back into the swing of things with another silly video about three weird computer mice. The first time around was a lotta fun and went over rather well, so why not. This time certainly proved to be enjoyable for me once again so here's hoping it's fun for y'all too.

And now it's onto the first video of 2022, which'll be an episode of LGR Oddware! Anyone familiar with chorded keyboards? Yeah. And that'll be followed by who knows what, as I've got around 30 videos mostly ready to make but nothing has grabbed my full attention as of this moment. It also won't be long till I'm headed outta town again with my brother to do a follow-up video on Computer Reset in Dallas, so that'll be a whole thing in January. Anyway. Till next time, have a happy new year and enjoy the mousy mayhem!

Looking forward to the video on chorded keyboards! Are you going to cover stenography? Here's the TinyMod I use for Plover steno. http://plover.stenoknight.com/2020/07/who-mods-tinymod.html

Merry Christmas and happy new year Clint - looking forward to another awesome year of LGR videos, although of course no pressure! :)

A serial mouse in 1997? I have to wonder: how anachronistic was that back then? I wonder if the Boss mouse expected you to use both buttons to middle-click.

LazyGameReviews

Nope, no middle clicking at all unfortunately. Pressing both buttons just inputs the left and right clicks.

Sabrina

This was thrice as nice!

My dad. My dad had that mirror on his monitor, that’s who.

LazyGameReviews

What did he use it for?? I looked up photos and it doesn't actually show a proper reflection, it's like a bulbous shiny bit of silvery plastic. I guess it might prove useful if you were worried about people coming up behind you while using the computer, heh. I am highly confused by this mirror.

Novel

Wait... Is Star Trek dead? Like, it hasn't got a current series or anything has it? I feel like through my entire life at least one series has been going but is that still the case?

I used a spare CD taped to the upper corner of my monitor as a "rear view" mirror in college in the 90's. It prevented people from sneaking up on me while in the lab I worked at. I could actually surprise the person walking up on me by saying hi by name before they reached my station. The look of confusion of the black magic I was using to know how I could possibly know who they were without turning around was great. They just saw the CD on the monitor as some weird decoration and not something functional. I wonder what kids use these days to prevent sneak attacks!?

Man, how do they have a middle dial in the Super Overdrive mouse and not use it as a middle button? What a tease.

LazyGameReviews

There are a couple going right now: Discovery and Picard. And maybe an animated show, I forget. They're all on Paramount's streaming thingie.

When Toby Fox tweeted a picture of a dog in one of those Little Tykes cars, saying it would be the last thing you saw before you died in Deltarune, I'm FAIRLY CERTAIN this wasn't what he had in mind! XD

Dukefazon

I couldn't help but smile all the way when you played UT at the end :D Isn't that cat is voiced by the voice of Bart Simpson?

LazyGameReviews

I would not be surprised! She’s voiced all kinds of random characters in kids games. Haven’t found any credits mentioning this though.

Chad Armstrong

I’m assuming that the Star Trek mouse needs the extra battery to provide enough power for the additional effects, since the serial port doesn’t offer enough power. The Logitech CyberMan requires two AA to provide tactile feedback, but otherwise works fine without the supplementary batteries.

LazyGameReviews

You got it. There’s a similar thing going on with the serial device I’m covering on Oddware next, except instead of relying on batteries it has a 5-pin passthrough to siphon 5V from the keyboard port!

Hope you had a nice Christmas, Clint! That Roland mouse was pretty neat looking.. too bad the buttons were lame

The discussion about possible uses for a monitor mirror reminds me of chatting with friends on ICQ back in the day over dialup; our favorite abbreviation was PAW (Parents Are Watching). Clint, as a peripheral connoiseur I'm curious what kind of mouse you use for your daily driver on modern PC for non-gaming work?

Anonymous

This isn't the first time I've heard of a monitor mirror recently. I would have said that I heard it from you, but clearly not. I guess the idea was for the office paranoid or NSFW viewer. An enjoyable video as always, thanks.

Anonymous

Great video as always. Always look forward to your videos

Monitor mirrors are 100% a thing Used so you can alt-tab when the boss/parents/spouse try to sneak up on you

SuperTekBoy

"If it's raining on my fingers." love this quote.

SuperTekBoy

I wonder if the little tikes keyboard is any good.

LazyGameReviews

Ya never know, some of those kids keyboards are surprisingly decent. I'd wager it's quite sturdy, if nothing else!

LazyGameReviews

I did, and I hope you did too, Evan! I'm really wondering if I can somehow get rid of the spring inside and make the buttons sturdier... it's just such an odd design decision on the part of Roland

Speaking of Star Trek, did you know this exists, Clint? https://www.ebay.com/itm/203776003578?hash=item2f71ff0dfa:g:2hoAAOSwFk1gRlgc

Set Phasers to FUN!

I actually unboxed that Star Trek mouse a little while ago, too! It's been a daily driver ever since. I'm too much of a Trekkie to put it away.
