THRIFTS.

I didn't have quite as much footage as I wanted to for this one, so I ended up taking a bit of a detour last weekend and dropped by a local event. And well, why not roll it up into a Thrifts episode, I thought!

Hope y'all enjoy 👍

Lucky rock is solar charging with usb. Nice. Holy crap. A manual for people? Must get one. People are hard.

Yay! A new Thrifts episode! I couldn't help myself and made a terrible pun when I saw that church pew in the beginning. You could play Dark Forces while sitting on it and do "pew pew pew"... I expect you're not smiling as brightly as when you were walking around with your new/old pc at that convention...

Matthew Taylor

I would like to say I think that ST:TNG set has been moving around the state for a while. It was in two different stores here in Winston Salem for a while.

Enjoy it I did. It's nice to thrift vicariously through you.

Gah sometimes I forget computers I've had over the years until I see the cases for them on your channel. Fun video!

Dang i've never heard of this southeast game exchange, I'm right down the road from greenville so I'm definitely going next year. Maybe I can bring something for you to sign if you come again!

Anonymous

The Microsoft WheelMouse was my favorite too!

someone out there is scrambling around looking for their usb-c cable

LazyGameReviews

Definitely! I'll probably go again next year and actually plan things out, this was very much spur of the moment since it was so close

I gasped out loud when I saw the price for the SNES. There HAS to be something wrong with it, no way would something so recognizable go for so cheap now.

Anonymous

Cool episode! It's always nice when there is a change in setting, and that Con looked pretty fun

Great video!! love these!

LazyGameReviews

Just missing the AC adapter and video cables, so it was sold untested and I guess priced accordingly. Someone bought it quickly as it was gone the next day!

Hot Dang that thrifting music makes me happy! Awesome finds Clint!

Joon Choi

Great episode bud! That Save the Machines booth was awesome - if I was there that Gateway 486 would have been mine. Spent many weekends in my teens lusting after some version of that computer in the old Gateway 2000 catalogs. 😀

Don't forget: the magic words are Klaatu barada necktie.

I love the look of those Compaqs with the curves on the front. That's the way our first Pentium system looks and it just reminds me of Need for Speed II SE, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and Sim City 3000. I also love that user find of the original Roller Coaster Tycoon with just the MicroProse and Chris Sawyer logos on it. I had that and the original Corkscrew Follies expansion pack. I haven't seen them in ages and all I really find now are the Infogrames or Atari versions.

moosemaimer

so I don't really care for old keyboards but HNNNNGGGG that mouse... it just needs the side buttons

Evan B

hah! wow.. that's awesome you found the Quantex PC at the game expo! Man, it's been sooooo long since I've been to a convention :-/ Really miss it

The humans aren't doing what the math says. The humans must be broken.

LazyGameReviews

Would've grabbed it myself if I didn't already have one. Classic machines, always loved their design!

KWHP was an indie FM station in suburban Oklahoma City back during the 60s and 70s. These days, it's frequency has been taken over by sports talk.

What about the witchcraft tape???

Anonymous

The Atari 800xl was my first computer... and I remember the box like it was Christmas. :) heh. I miss the days when computers were for geeks. :)

NGL I'd dive into that Volvo HR manual in a heartbeat

LevyNeptune

Great episode! A few things I noticed though; there's a single frame of black at 11:11 and some audio glitches at 12:07, 12:17, and 13:25

Anonymous

Is that turntable slip mat the same pattern as the carpet in The Shining??

Anonymous

It looks like you did not actually play the witch craft part... it looks like side 2 of that reel begins with "part two," which I guess is that musical. The "witch craft" must come after that.

Anonymous

im sure i had one of them globes when i was a kid so cool

LazyGameReviews

What I played continues throughout the rest of side two! It does begin by saying that it's "part two" of a radio play, but it's not a musical. There are no musicals recorded on either side.

LazyGameReviews

Nice to know! Seems like a station with some personality, there were some creative ad reads and station idents from them also on the tape.

LazyGameReviews

Hopefully things continue to improve so that they're more common again! Really unsure how things will progress over this next year, so I had to jump on this one when I had the chance

I absolutely loved that mouse too. Had two of them. I still do have one but it’s plastic around the buttons cracked long ago so it doesn’t click nicely anymore. Great episode :)

LazyGameReviews

That's similar to what happened to mine back in the day. Used it so much the left mouse button wore down, both on the plastic and the switch underneath

Mighty Jabba's Collection

The "Witchcraft" recording is actually from the series "Lights Out." This particular episode is from 1938 and is called "The Chicken Heart." It's about a piece of chicken heart being kept alive in a laboratory that keeps growing until it consumes the entire world. Here is the script: https://www.genericradio.com/show/ITQXONWHS

Whoa, did not expect that twist in the middle, LGR Convenes Episode 1

Uncleawesome

Awesome episode :) Star-Strek TNG on VHS tapes would be cool to have

Bryan McIntosh

I initially read your typo as "Star-Shrek TNG," but then wondered whether we'd be better off with Shrek as the captain or the chief engineer! "I'm givin' 'er all she's got, Captain! *FRRRRT*"
