LGR Oddware - IBM Model M13 Trackpoint Keyboard

The IBM Model M keyboard is legendary. If only it came in black with a built-in mouse... Well what do you know, it did! The M13 clicky keyboard manufactured by Lexmark. ● Consider supporting LGR on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/LazyGameReviews ● Social links: https://twitter.com/lazygamereviews http://www.facebook.com/LazyGameReviews

Dude that Model M->Model M13 transition was really well done.

Black on black looks pretty sweet but I always hated those nubs!

On one hand… that black is amazing. On the other, I can see how the trackpoint would be potentially painful to interfere with. Still surprising they made a desktop keyboard with it though.

Yay! New oddware! I loves me some oddware, oh yeah!

Cool game choices for testing this keyboard :P Never seen the PC port of Area 51, didn't even know it existed. Cool video, and very nice looking keyboard...

That's one sweet keyboard, I wouldn't mind finding one to keep with my modern desktop, if I were to ensure color matching. I've been using the Model M lately with my desktop, and haven't once thought of switching to anything else. Also, I see The Indie Box games! :D

As far as I know it was designed for server rooms where space is few and so no place for a mouse (I wish we had those things at my sidejob at the Airport (packing for DHL), those cheap shitpickles we have their are just shit!).

That's gotta be the only Mario game with a Mario voice not done by Charles Martinet?

My workplace is completely populated with ThinkPad desktops and laptops. I have my own work laptop and it does have that special red trackpoint nubbin thing. I played for it for like, a minute, but immediately defaulted to the regular trackpad because that's what I'm used to. I also have a wireless keyboard and monitor, too, in case I preferred the desktop setup. The keyboard does look similar to this... I'll have to look closer at it on Monday and compare it to the one featured in this video! I just use the keyboard on the laptop, though. The monitor isn't much use to me either because the monitor is 4:3 and the laptop is not, which is kind of annoying. >.> I prefer 4:3 for retro gaming, not for work-related things. lol

Oh god Area 51 *drool*

I would love Tech Tales about the PS2-port. :)

Oh geeze, those things... I absolutely can't stand them. In fact, I actually remember commercials from when IBM first introduced the feature onto laptops and I couldn't help but think to myself, "How in the world can they replicate true mouse movement with a tiny little eraser nub?" When I got an old laptop with such a thing in it a little over a decade ago I found out the terrifying truth: "They couldn't." The one on my laptop actually has a centring issue which seems to be at the firmware level where if you move it for too long without returning it to centre it forgets where centre is and starts drifting. It also got sticky and nasty-feeling with age, but then it's not an IBM laptop, it's a Toshiba laptop, so maybe they just couldn't replicate the same function and feel of the IBM ones?

Is that a Fallout beer?

LazyGameReviews

You get used to them, but yeah, I was so happy when they were replaced outright with trackpads

LazyGameReviews

A surprising amount of Midway arcade games made it to PC like that! I didn't know about Area 51 being one of them until I found that box, hehe

LazyGameReviews

It is surprising, yeah. I've also seen some with built-in trackpads and trackballs, but this is the only one I know of with a trackpoint. Man, that's a lot of "tracks"

The keyboard that came with my dell optiplex running windows 98 back in like 2000 came with a near exact copy of the model m just dell branded turns out!

Dude. The M13 isn't "oddware", it's MY WEAPON OF CHOICE

LazyGameReviews

You're an odd dude, Jim ;) But I really don't blame you, this is a phenomenal keyboard! I hesitated putting it in Oddware, but the title gets the views, hehe
